Preston-born Foster was brought to Fosse in May 1900 as a replacement for Herbert Dainty. When Dainty returned, Foster quickly moved on after playing just 21 games for the club.
He'd started his career with Reading before a move to Northampton Town followed. He made his debut in September 1900 at home against a Stockport County side who were playing their first game as a League side.
An FA Cup appearance was also thrown into the mix but when Dainty returned he was no longer needed, moving on to Kettering and then Rothwell Town swifts before retiring.
