Bristol-born midfielder Johnson had spells in the Midlands with West Brom and Nottingham Forest after turning professional with Norwich City before spending a year at the Walkers Stadium, amassing 22 league appearances and scoring just one goal in the process.
He was a summer recruit of Rob Kelly in 2006 and made his debut in an away trip to Luton Town but his stay at the club lasted just a year, with Kelly and then Nigel Worthington making way for Martin Allen as manager, and Johnson wasn’t in his plans. There were rumours that another appearance for the club would trigger a clause in his contract and City allowed him to move on to Barnsley the following summer.
The midfielder was an England Youth international but he went on to play senior international football for Wales, receiving 15 caps.
Already an experienced figure when he arrived at Leicester, his move to Barnsley proved to be his last in the upper echelons of English football, with his stint at Oakwell followed by a drop down the football pyramid to play for King’s Lynn.
