Gemmill, son of former Scotland player Archie, came through the youth ranks at Nottingham Forest, where his father had played, and spent a large chunk of his early career with Forest before a move to Everton.
Gemmill had won two promotions and a League Cup in Nottingham, as well as earning the majority of his international call-ups, but he continued to impress at Goodison Park during a five-year stint.
He moved out on-loan to Preston North End as the first-team opportunities dried up, before making the move to the Walkers Stadium with his best days behind him. A midfielder, Gemmill, made 17 league appearances for the Foxes in the year after they'd been relegated from the top flight.
His stay at City proved to be his last in the higher-levels of English football. He had trials with Sheffield Wednesday before settling on a player-coach role with Oxford United. That lasted just a fortnight, with an offer to finish his career with New Zealand Knights in Australia's A-League too good to turn down.
