The former Aston Villa striker arrived at Filbert Street following further spells with West Brom, on loan, and Blackburn Rovers, City shelling out £1.1 million for his services.
He was brought to the club by Martin O'Neill but was one of the Northern Irishman's poorer signings, being used more often from the bench as a regular starter. He made a good start - scoring as a substitute at Anfield in August 1997 - but that proved to be one of only a few highlights.
His first-team chances became fewer and fewer and, after dropping to featuring mainly as a reserve team player for the club, a number of clubs including PAOK from Greece approached City about loaning the hitman. A loan move to Walsall follwed in March 2000 and shortly after came to an agreement with City to cancel his contract.
He went on to join Stoke City, St Mirren and Blackpool but was used, again, mainly as a substitute as his impressive career start failed to live up to expectations.
