Scottish-born Evans arrived at City after a good twelve-year service given to Aston Villa. He arrived at Villa Park, his first club south of the border, after shining for Dunfermline Athletic.
He was signed by City in August 1989 in order to steady the back four with experience and made his debut in the same month away at Hull City. But he was prone to errors and his time at the club was instantly forgettable as David Pleat's side tumbled to relegation to the Second Division.
He made 14 league appearances, with two more coming in the League Cup, but had understandably lost some his pace when he arrived at Filbert Street. He left the club for a venture overseas and to Victoria Vistas in Canada as player-coach and then Brisbane United in the same role.
He did return for a brief end to his career in Britain with Darlington before moving into coaching, being part of Brian Little's set-up at City, Aston Villa and then Stoke City.
