Striker Carnelly spent just a year with Fosse but scored an impressive ten goals in 28 league starts for the Foxes in the 1896-97 season.
Fosse fans were already well aware of Carnelly before his arrival - he'd scored a hat-trick against them in a Midland League game whilst playing for Loughborough and had also been in the Notts County side that played against Leicester in their last-ever game at Mill Lane.
He was Nottingham Forest's top-scorer in the season before his arrival at Leicester but, despite his good scoring form for the Foxes, his form was often described as being hit and miss.
He went on the join Bristol City and scored four goals in their first-ever FA Cup contest before playing for Thames Ironworks (to become West Ham), Millwall and Ilkeston Town.
