The Nuneaton born wing-half of versatile forward made just one Football League appearance for the Foxes, at Turf Moor in a 3-1 defeat against Burnley in September 1954. He recovered from a broken leg to get that shock call-up but failed to make an impression and didn't feature again in the first team.
Jakeman, registered as Leslie but affectionately known as Mick, arrived at City from Leicestershire neighbours Hinckley United and, after three years with City, Hinckley demanded a fee for his services without receiving one from the Foxes. City were reported to the FA as a result and slapped with a fine.
He left the club for trials with Coventry City but couldn't make an impact with the Sky Blues, instead moving down the ladder with hometown club Nuneaton Borough and Hinckley Athletic amongst other clubs.
