Iggleden, whose registered first name was Horatio but was affectionately known as Ray, was thrown into the deep end somewhat when he signed for City as a 16-year-old having worked on the docks in Hull, his hometown.
He was signed in March 1942 and turned pro with Leicester but soon had to depart for Royal Marine duty. He made just eleven Football League appearances and six war-time appearances, chipping in with two goals.
He was a versatile forward who also guested for Grimsby Town and went on to play for Leeds United and Exeter City following his time as a Fox. His best days were arguably at Leeds, where he bagged 50 goals, including a hat-trick against his old City side when he partnered John Charles in United's attack.
