Barking-born forward Gurry failed to score in 23 league starts for City between his arrival in March 1930 and his move to Southampton five years' later.
Starting his career with Barking Town, he spent just a few months with West Ham United before making his way to Leicestershire. He arrived as back-up but when he did look to be edging close to a first-team call-up he broke his leg in a reserve team match.
When he did get time on the pitch, most of it coming in the 1932-33 season, Gurry failed to find the back of the net at senior level, although did top-score for the reserve team one season, netting 15 goals.
A move to Southampton brought him similar fortunes in front of goal but he did enjoy a better time at Chester, his final club before retirement.
