Thomas followed his brother John to Filbert Street in July 1922, after also following him from Lochgelly United to Raith Rovers before being part of a £1,500 that brought him south of the border. John went on to become a City great, both as a player and a manager, but Thomas couldn't replicate that success.
He was his brother's right-flank partner at all clubs but he wasn't guaranteed a starting role at City, mainly due to the unfortunate competition with Hughie Adcock. He made 41 appearances in the league for City, chipping in with six goals along the way.
He moved on to look for more first team action with Halifax Town, Bristol Rovers and Kettering Town, enjoying two Championship campaigns with the latter. His daughter Elsie went on to marry Don Revie.
