The goal-getter had two stints in the blue and white of Fosse, but his first was much better than his return. After joining from Notts County, where he was prolific and collected Football League and full England caps, Humphreys made the decision to step down a level with Fosse but continued his fine goalscoring form, netting 19 goals in 26 starts to help the club on the way to their first promotion.
His form saw Chelsea come in for his services and he promptly departed for the capital for a spell at Stamford Bridge and then later with Tottenham before returning for his second stint at Filbert Street. It wasn't to be as successful, with Leicester's team average at best and Humphreys not getting any younger. Fosse lost money both times the player departed for pastures new.
After his second spell at the club he moved to Hartlepool United, where he was named player-manager, while an overseas job as coach at FC Basel followed and Humphreys was reported to have also coached in Italy.
