  1. Agree with 99% of what you say only thing I would say is that the City and Chelsea comparison is a bit of a misnomer as the difference and the thing that elevated these clubs into the top sides in the league was that for a spell they outspent everyone else in the league to establish that base of consistent top 4 finishes and the champions league qualifications and the ensuing financial benefits that come with it. Leicester aren't going to be able to break into that top clutch of sides by doing the same thing, it would have to be more clever manipulation of the transfer market and a slower, less aggressive trajectory.
  2. He's already fluent in Spanish and Italian apparently as he's got designs on managing abroad at some point.
  3. If he's here for three years and does well then can't ask for a lot more than that, 3 years is a fairly lengthy spell for a manager at top clubs these days.
  4. He'd be back at Chelsea in a shot given the history he has there, his main residence is in London, etc, etc.
  5. Danger is if Lampard fails to do that properly they turn to Rodgers who is one of the best at doing exactly that.
  6. I couldn't see him going back to Liverpool, don't think his stock is high enough with the fans like you say and think there would be a bit of an uproar if he went back there. The Arsenal one is a funny one and I would always have thought similar but I knew someone who worked for him when he was at Celtic who would say he went out his way more than once to say how he'd love to manage Arsenal.
  7. I don't see him going to Spurs at all, just couldn't see the logic in it for all the reasons discussed on here of late. If Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool or Chelsea come in for him he's off though imo, whenever that happens. He's been the same throughout his career at every club as soon as he gets a better offer and I don't see that changing, it's very much the way of it with playeers and managers nowadays. He's been quite open about it talking about Maddison and Man Utd recently so his thoughts are pretty clear on it. Despite Man Utd being in a bad place they are one of the biggest clubs in the world and going there while they are at their lowest ebb would suggest it would be fairly easy for him to improve them. Most of these big clubs are going down the head coach and technical director route as opposed to a traditional manager which makes Rodgers a very attractive prospect as, as far as coaching goes he's one of the best in the business.
  8. The OP is basically talking about succession planning and yes Leicester looked to be very well switched on in this regard, replacing Maguire last summer before he left being the best example. This very thing boils my piss at Celtic as we seem to be the opposite and completely reactionary when we are relatively in the same boat as yourselves, expected to make a big sale of one of our best players most summers.
  9. Yeah absolutely spot on. What they really need is virtually a full re-build and levy won't open the wallet wide enough to do that. Can see them reverting to type over the next few years.
  10. Seen a few spurs fans trying to have a go at Celtic for getting horsed off PSG as a defence for last night for some bewildering reason 😂 Bayern only narrowly beat us at home a couple of years ago. We know our level but I’ll say one thing if we had access to the vast riches of the EPL tv money I’d bet we’d win at least something before Spurs ever do. A joke club, with joke fans, who bottle it at every possible opportunity. When Kane et al leave this summer they’ll revert to a middle of the road outfit again with a big shiny new stadium to play in.
  11. Having watched that dog sh!t Manure and Arsenal served up yesterday there should be absolutely no reason why Leicester can't finish in the top 4 this season, injuries and all that sort of stuff being kind. The key thing is if it happens building on it and staying there.
  12. There are plenty of comments he’s made that suggest he was well aware of the inevitability of the deal, similar to comments he made recently about Maddison. Theres a huge difference between a manager being disappointed at losing one of his best players (as any manager would be) than a player being sold against his wishes. To say he was sold against his wishes is facetious imo.
  13. It's nothing to do with hate or Celtic, it's simply a signing that didn't work out. He's on big money and is ageing and as such interested clubs won't be able to pay him what he's currently earning, let alone pay a fee for him, leading to the stalemate that's ensued. We have players at Celtic in the exact same boat, albeit on a smaller scale, as do most clubs across England, Scotland and throughout Europe. For what it's worth he'd obviously do well in Scotland and score lots of goals but he isn't in the same league as our last striker in Dembele or our current one in Eduoard so your a bit misinformed here and he wouldn't even be a first pick for us let alone walk into our team.
  14. Dortmund, Ateletico Madrid, Porto, Benfica, Sevilla, etc, etc are masters at exactly what you say, know when the time is right to sell a big asset and almost always reinvest it well, that's the key part and that comes from having a solid recruitment and identification structure behind it all. It's the way of it at 99% of clubs in world football such is the frequency of transfer activity nowadays. At Celtic I'm now accepting of the fact that we'll sell at least one player every summer for big money, it was Dembele last season, Tierney this season and will most certainly be Edouard this summer. As long as we reinvest and succession plan properly then I'm fine with that, the frustration recently has been that we are too reactionary and not reinvesting the bulk of the money brought in. Leicester and most clubs in the EPL are the exact same in a relative sense. Couple of summers ago it was Mahrez, Maguire this summer and will likely be Maddison or Chilwell next summer. Again the key is to ensure succession planning is done in advance and the money is reinvested.
  15. I don't believe that's what happened tbh, all his comments suggest the fact that he probably knew Maguire was for the off this summer before he even took on the Leicester job.
  16. Man Utd despite their current predicament and as much as I don’t like them are one of the biggest clubs in the world so it would most definitely be an upgrade. They are ten times the club Spurs are and despite how poor they’ve been Man Utd will win the league again before Spurs ever do. He’d be properly backed in the transfer market there and having to build the club again from the ground up would suit what he does best. Man Utd have spent over £900m in the last 7 or 8 years so I can’t see how that can be interpreted as not backing managers, it’s how they spend the money that’s the problem. If the plan is to sell Pogba and use some of that to reinvest then that’s probably one of the smartest moves they’ll have made in the transfer market in recent years.
  17. Would be amazed to see it, you've been trying to get rid of him for years now and no one will touch him apart from loan moves on the last day of the window. He'll be 32 next summer also so zero resale value on him. The most realistic thing would be agreeing a deal for a side to take over the last year of his contract somewhere.
  18. He's a fantastic coach, great at developing players but like you say his record in the transfer market, pretty much everywhere he's been is poor to say the least so I see where your coming from.
  19. I wouldn't say a circa £50m net spend is a fairly sizeable investment for a top 4 side, who just reached the champions league final and who had spent zero on transfer fees in the 18 months prior. If anything it smacks of a lack of ambition to me.
  20. For what it's worth I reckon Poch is an absolute shoe-in for the Man Utd job when the inevitable happens to Ole. Would suit both parties, Man Utd have had a long standing interest in him and he's the sort of manager they need at the moment, one who can build. Tottenham in all honesty probably want rid of him as things have gone a bit stale and if Man Utd made that decision for them it would be the best possible deal for them as they wouldn't have to sack him and would get some nice compo.
  21. Be surprised if you get any sort of fee for Slimani at all ever, the best you could hope for is hoping someone will take him for free and pay his wages for the last year of his deal.
  22. Mark McGhee is an absolute tool of a guy.
  23. Yeah it's all relative though, the exact same logic could and would most likely apply should a Chelsea or whoever come calling at Leicester. Like I've said I don't think Spurs would be a good move for him but if they came calling then there is a more than good chance he'd go, that's the reality.
  24. I don't know if you can look at the NDombele purchase and view that as a signal of intent, they hadn't signed anyone in around 18 months when they signed him and they had to spend some money to appease the fans. If they were serious they would have gone out and signed the 2-3 other players they really need to challenge the top 2. They never done that and dragged out the whole summer trying to get Lo Celso on loan. I can see paying for the new stadium being a further drain to the point it will make them as conservative as they have been in the transfer market the last couple of years for a while yet. That will cause a problem when it comes the time they have to replace ageing/outgoing cornerstones of their side such as Vertonghen, Alderwereild, Eriksen, Rose, Lloris etc. Spurs have hit a ceiling for me and wouldn't be surprised if they dropped off a bit in the next few years and had to rebuild.
