  1. I'm not dismissing the sum of money at all, I'm merely suggesting it's the going rate for quality players who sides at the top end of the EPL or those with ambitions of being, typically pay to get the quality they require to push them on, that's just a fact of life. One in 100 you'll get a diamond in the rough like the players you mention but you can't adopt that as the core of your transfer strategy, you need to be realistic if you have lofty ambitions and you need to be able to back such ambitions up. No one is suggesting spending money for the sake of it and just throwing it at the first player who comes along, most posts I've seen people are voicing this opinion based on the situation whereby the opportunity presents itself to sign a player that on the face of it is a significant upgrade on the options already available within the squad. Of course every transfer is a gamble to some degree or another, whether they cost £3m or £30m but the crux of the point is if the right player becomes available and is attainable then there's no reason why a club as well run and as ambitious as Leicester shouldn't be able to push the boat out a little bit if needs be. Your right we have no idea of the club's finances but of what we do know is you could very well get circa £80m for Maguire which at the present moment would leave you in net profit for this window so in that regard a net spend of £30-40m overall is not what I'd describe as dream land, not at all. Coming out of the summer window having spent £30-40m net is certainly not chasing the moon either.
  2. Given Ntcham looks definitely for the off given his recent comments, can't see any way back for him, if we were to lose both him and McGregor it would need to happen soon as we'd need to undertake significant surgery of our midfield. The board wouldn't be stupid enough to put themselves in another Dembele situation like last season nor would the fans stand for it, then you add in McGregor just signed a new five year contract at Christmas. If the McGregor to Leicester move is going to happen it'll need to happen soon imo or Celtic will dig their heels in.
  3. Take the money out of it, the one glaring deficiency in the side is a quality wide player and regardless of cost the club should have the ambition to address that. Cost only comes into it as the way the world is for EPL clubs now is that they have to pay a premium for players who will significantly enhance what they already have, therefore, £30-40-50m isn't an outlandish expectation from fans to acquire such a player, even more so if Maguire goes for the fees being reported. You've already spent similar money on Tielemans so there is clearly an appetite within the club to spend this level of money should the right player become available. Forget top 6, to simply improve on last year's finishing position you need that little bit of quality that separates you from the rest of the chasing pack, if you don't it's pretty much a lottery where you'll finish among that middling set of clubs such is the low disparity in points totals, 4 or 5 points could easily be the difference in an 8th place finish versus a 14 or 15th placed finish. A bad spate of injuries, suspensions, cruel run of fixtures could all lead to that latter scenario so I believe you need that little bit extra to separate you from the Everton's and West Ham's in and around you. As for the deadwood such as Slimani and Ghezzal, it's fantasy to think another club is going to come in and take them off your hands. These guys are on lucrative contracts that no club outside the EPL will be able to match and as such the players will be happy to sit tight. The best you can hope for is to send these guys out on loan and get as much of their wages covered as possible for the duration of their contracts.
  4. My concern with Bowen although a good player is that anytime I've watched him he's not particularly quick. I think this could be exposed a bit in the EPL and because he's not the quickest I'm not sure he'd be a great fit in a Rodgers side.
  5. Barnes fair enough, not Gray imo, had a fair crack of the whip now and doesn't look to be developing at all, just not got it imo. His level is lower EPL/top end of the championship imo.
  6. Three great shouts, maybe temparement issues with Thauvin but that aside he's a terrific player and Fraser I imagine you could get for a very reasonable price given he has a year to go.
  7. Heard similar, rumour has been swirling from not long after Rodgers left that McGregor wants to join him.
  8. Surely Perez is that guy? Did he not also say something in his unveiling about alluding to being more a forward than a wide player. I'd be pretty surprised if you signed another forward, surely a top wide player has to be the priority now.
  9. If the aspirations to break the top 6 are real then a quality winger who can hit double figures in terms of goals is required still imo.
  10. These are the sort of players I mean in terms of real difference makers to threaten that toip 6.
  11. Championship stats in there though. I'm not needing justification Perez is a good player I've already said I believe him to be a good player and a goof signing, I was just making the point that I don't think he's the kind of guy that will make a big difference in terms of breaking that top 6 and there's still work to do to get such a player.
  12. This is the crux of it, I think with this signing due to his versatility you'll get two players in one, someone who can give Vardy a rest from time to time and also fill on out wide when needed. As said still need that top class out and out wide player imo though, someone like Sarr or even Mahrez back, someone who will terrify full backs. Still plenty time left in the window with a month to go though.
  13. It's not guaranteed he replicates that at Leicester next season though, he's not a player who turns in that level of numbers season after season. I'm not panning the signing I think he's a good player, works hard which will lend itself well to a Rodgers side and is very versatile. I only made the point as I don't believe he is the sort of signing that will be a vast difference maker in terms of making the top 6 which is the well documented aim. I still believe you need a bit of stardust in those forward positions to get there, you may not get someone quite as good but someone like Mahrez, someone talismanic.
  14. Decent signing for the squad Perez but don't really see how he enhances the first XI imo. One of his biggest attributes will be his versatility I imagine. I'd be hoping there is still plans to sign a real top class attacking wide player that is obviously better than what is already there. I guess if Maguire goes it leaves you guys with a net spend of zero effectively so you'd think there'd be enough in the coffers to still go and get such a player.
  15. Surely whatever way you look at it getting Mahrez back either on loan or permanent would be an absolutely superb piece of business? No disrespect but I couldn't see Leicester attracting a wide player even close to his level.
  16. This very thing annoys the hell out of me with Celtic, we never go out and replace before we have the money in our hands to spend and as a result it ends up costing us more, albeit on a lesser scale from yourselves. Poor succession planning.
  17. If Congerton is given too much control... Appetite for destruction
  18. Not so sure it's that lol, word on the street is that Norwich said he'd be part of their development squad at worst and going out on loan at best so he's rightly chosen Celtic as the better option for him to develop for the next few years. Excited by this signing tbh.
  19. I'm not blaming the team that's setting the valuation I'm just commenting on how the whole thing is 'Madness' and inflated as per the thread!
  20. Yeah I get that part of it, but in the mad world of the EPL club's slap these valuations on players and clubs end up paying it lol! Sigurdsson for example who went for close to £50m.
  21. The latest absolutely mental one I seen today is Bournemouth valuing David Brooks at £50m amid Man Utd interest. A very good player but £50m come on!
  22. Difference being McGinn is about 5 years older and he made exactly the right moves in his career at the right time to ensure he played and developed and it's come up trumps for him now. For example he rejected interest from the Championship and MLS when he left St Mirren at around 19-20 and signed for Hibs instead. Turnbull looks to be doing the opposite and I can't see it working out for him, fully expect him to be out on loan within 12 months.
  23. I think 5 of his goals were penalties. I've only seen him for 90 minutes a couple of times against Celtic, the rest has been 5 minute highlights on Scotsport every Sunday night and I know it's not a lot to base it on but he does look as if he has a real chance to be a very good player. I think this move he is making is the wrong one however and could hamper his development for a number of reasons. He would be best served going to Celtic or a championship club where he'll get more time and freedom to develop.
