  1. He's a diehard fan and already a club legend, the ten in a row thing means a lot to him. If he keeps developing he'll move onto bigger and better things after that with everyone's best wishes. The board and Rodgers tried to push him out the door last summer (to finance a rebuild) when Everton bid £25m but he dug his heels in and refused to go despite allegedly potentially quadrupling his current wage.
  2. I doubt Maddison will get called up but his time will come. That said when you look at crap like Barkley and Lingard who will likely get called up then it's a funny one as he's had a far better season than both.
  3. Rodgers tried very hard to get Wilson on loan at Celtic last summer but Liverpool wouldn't do business due to them apparently not being on good terms with Rodgers. Wouldn't surprise me if Rodgers goes for him this summer, very handy player.
  4. Won't happen, not this summer anyway, he won't leave until the summer after next. If any of our major players leave this season it will be McGregor, Forrest or Rogic.
  5. Interesting this as Rodgers done an interview with a newspaper saying he's open to Benkovic coming back on loan to Celtic next season. If Soyuncu goes out on loan also then it leaves you quite thin at the back, don't see the logic in that. Probably having to go out and buy a CB when you have potentially two very able deputies out on loan that you've paid a lot of money for.
  6. @Ric Flair Yeah, never heard or read it confirmed from anyone official but this was the common perception. I think the fear around this is/was that we had a decent track record of unearthing gems and selling them on for decent money to the EPL across a few different managers and it appeared Congerton was dismantling what was already a good structure. Hopefully he's not done too much long term damage and we can reset and hopefully for you guys his influence is less at Leicester and he's more marginalised within a tighter overall recruitment structure.
  7. Yeah there's not been as much compared to the countries you mentioned probably due to the reason they don't settle. Quick look on Wikipedia there: In Scotland we've had Efrain Juarez, Eduaorda Herrera and Carlos Pena who all came with big pedigrees and were disasters, the latter you can probably write-off as he was an alcoholic and ended up in rehab lol! In the EPL the list is as follows: Pablo Barrera - West Ham Utd Jared Borgetti - Bolton Nery Castillo - Man City Giovanni Dos Santos - Spurs Guillermo Franco - West Ham Javier Hernandez - Man Utd/West Ham Raul Jimenez - Wolves Miguel Layin - Watford Carlos Salcido - Fulham Carlos Vela - Arsenal A few of the above went on to have half-decent careers elsewhere but 80% of that list or greater were disasterous signings.
  8. Jimenez is a decent shout. Vela as much as a good player didn't do it at all at Arsenal. There will always be a few exceptions but in the main Mexican players seem to bomb in the UK by and large for some reason.
  9. £34m apparently. As good as he looks the only area of concern would be Mexicans seldomly settle and do well on UK shores, Chicarito is the only one I can really think of that has been a success.
  10. Done deal to go to Napoli by all accounts.
  11. Anytime I've seen this lad he's been excellent, would be a tremendous signing imo. Tore Arsenal a new one in the EL earlier this season.
  12. Highly doubt Rondon is the type of striker Rodgers would go for, nowhere near mobile enough.
  13. Agree with this, seen quite a bit of Gray and he's a poor player at this level. He looks very much like a Championship player playing in the premier league and out his depth. No side with him as a regular feature is going to threaten the current top 6 over the course of a season.
  14. The thing I don't get with these posts is that yes, he shopped in a much less lucrative market at Celtic but this evens itself out as it's far easier to perform in Scotland as quite a few on here say it's akin to League 1 level. It really doesn't matter it's all relative, put him in charge of recruitment at Real Madrid or Man City and he'd still make an arse of it such is his incompetence. If this guy is identifying players in the region of £2m-5m at Celtic and they still can't perform in what we're told is a league 1 type level then sorry that still says to me he's terrible at identifying players, which is his job. There's a lot of heads being buried in the sand on this thread, similar to myself and a lot of others when he rocked up at Celtic. This doesn't mean that Brendan won't be successful overall at Leicester but anyone who claims they aren't concerned about Congerton at the club given his record is kidding themselves on. We were tremendously successful during Brendan's time at Celtic, everyone was devastated when he left yet Congerton was still universally hated and for good reason, anyone burying their heads in the sand have to ask themselves why is this the case. We weren't a club in free fall, a basket case, looking for a scape goat like Sunderland. Like I said, I have it on good authority from someone very close to the football operation at Celtic that Congerton wasn't responsible for identifying one single successful signing in his time at Celtic. Not every signing a club makes is down to the head of recruitment, there is a larger network such as agents. inside info from particular league's, clubs, long standing relationships, etc. For example, quite a few players we get we're put on to or get from clubs we have a long standing relationship with like Man City and PSG. That sort of thing in itself might be Leicester's saving grace with Congerton if it marginalises his influence.
  15. Your obviously being facetious but I think the point people are making that you have obviously missed is that Brendan May have a blind spot as far as Congerton is concerned.
  16. Yeah let’s bash Sunderland and Celtic as a means of justifying appointing a charlatan, sound logic right there. All it means he’ll have more money at Leicester to squander on the horrendous players he’ll identify. Please stop sticking your head in the sand, I was guilty of exactly this when he arrived at my club. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out Congerton is a haddy.
  17. Yeah it definitely seems he’s thought very long and hard given he’s brought his mate in again at the first opportunity lol!
  18. Your talking here as if Congerton identified McGinn lol! That of course is the topic for debate here right, his ability to identify players? McGinn we had been monitoring for years long before Congerton arrived, his grandad used to be Celtic chairman for one so he was very well known to us. Schar, we met his release clause after Deportivo were relegated but he wanted to go to the EPL, not much we could do about that. I don’t know how you can or would try and spin either of the above to allude to the fact that Congerton somehow isn’t an incompetent charlatan.
  19. This thread makes me chuckle to an extent as it is almost word for word the same on many a Celtic forum when he was appointed at our club. I and many others stuck their head in the sand and said “but look at Sunderland” as a club in the same way some on here are looking at Celtic somehow being culpable for this guy being terrible at his job. Yes we don’t have the vast millions to sign on players but of course everything is relative. With the benefit of hindsight just look at this guy’s record at ALL his previous clubs and what ALL fans of previous clubs think of him, it’s not as if he even splits opinion. The guy is an unmitigated disaster when it comes to identifying players, simple as that.
  20. I get your point to an extent, because Brendan was hugely successful at Celtic in spite of having Congerton around, so who is to say that it won’t be the same at Leicester. All that said there must be a degree of concern bringing this guy in just looking at his track record, that’s undeniable.

  22. This guy wasn’t responsible for a single decent signing at Celtic and I have that on very good authority from someone who works as part of the football operation at the club. I’m talking with the benefit of hindsight here as I was very much in the “In Brendan we trust” brigade when he was appointed at Celtic. He’s been disasterous at his job everywhere he’s been and that’s open knowledge in the public domain so I’m surprised a club as well run and forward thinking as Leicester have brought him in, it must be a case of Rodgers wanting his own way. He (Rodgers) was asked about him at our most recent AGM such was the disdain for Congerton and his only justification was that he was good at his job as he identified that Courinho and Neymar were going to be top players when he seen them in Brazil at 14. My Nan could have worked out Neymar and Coutinho were going to the top at 14 I imagine. A couple of the clubs he’s been at like Sunderland and Hamburg have turned into absolute basket cases, a large part of the reason probably due to the money he’s squandered with no return on or off the pitch. Im ecstatic he’s away from my club, as are fans of every club he’s been at which should tell it’s own story. If I was Leicester fan however I’d be extremely concerned.
