  1. Could say that about virtually any player having watched them once. The big difference here is I have watched him week in week out for ten years just about, I also watch tons of the EPL on TV so I'm saying it based on a pretty comprehensive set of data. I'd wager you don't watch any Scottish football given you've watched him once and are to be blunt pretty stupidly forming an opinion on a player having watched him once. Similar to me saying Vardy is garbage after watching Friday night's game when we all know he's not. Looking at the wide players you guys have, who I've seen quite a bit of and some of the muck you have signed in that position (Musa, Ghazzal, etc) I'd wager Forrest wouldn't be the worst signing in the world for you guys. Another good example of this is the clamour for some on this thread to bring in McGinn, had anyone watched much of McGinn I'd expect there to be serious concerns around spending the money mentioned on him. You could get a far better midfield player from home or abroad for the £20m fee mentioned. Anyway, not that I want him to go anywhere just a point given how poor you guys look in terms of wide options.
  2. Here's a far better player than Gray or Barnes, both have been muck anytime I've seen them. Forrest tore Bayern Munich and in particular David Alaba apart just over a year ago, not many full backs in the hallowed EPL better than him.
  3. One player it does worry me that Rodgers may come back for given you guys look pretty poor in the wide areas (Gray and Barnes) from what I've seen is Forrest. Brendan loved him in his time up here and he is a real threat in terms of goals and assists.
  4. Great logic there given recent examples such as Virgil Van Dijk, Victor Wanyama, Moussa Dembele, etc, etc.
  5. There's no chance Tierney will leave us before the 10 in a row thing is done one way or the other, nor would the board get away with sanctioning it. There was uproar last year from the fans when it was alleged Rodgers and the board were trying to convince him to go to Everton for £30m. I've obviously seen loads of Tierney and have seen a fair bit of Chilwell as well and I don't think there is much to separate them, if anything I'd say Tierney is a bit better defensively and I'm not basing that on the SPFL fare he comes up against more his performances against guys like Sterling, Robben, etc in Europe where he has been consistently excellent and more than once named in the Champions league team of the week. He really is a tremendous talent and the only one I've seen that has looked better than him up here has been Virgil Van Dijk and even then there's not a lot in it. No offence but if he keeps developing as he has when he does leave I reckon it will be for a club in the top reaches of one of Europe's big leagues, Juventus for example are rumoured to have a long standing interest in him.
  6. Yeah exactly this, although Brendan did have a blind spot for him at Celtic so maybe not the most outlandish of guesswork.
  7. Signing for Hertha Berlin on a free it looks like. I'd say bullet dodged for you guys.
  8. I've watched a lot of McGinn over the past few years, he's a very decent player but for the fees I've seen mentioned (£15-20m) I think it would be a crazy amount to pay for him. I think he could hold his own at Leicester but I don't really see him improving your team all that much, I think technically and also his distribution in particular could be exposed a bit playing against a far greater standard of opposition in the EPL. Celtic dithered on signing him in the summer, low balling their offer hoping his emotional attachment to the club would get him eventually make him sit tight and accept our offer when it came and it bit us on the arse when he got fed up and went to Villa. That said, I wasn't at the time and am still not overly fussed on missing out on him as when everyone is fit I don't think he would play in our starting 11, McGregor (hands off btw!) for example is far better and greater technically. Not that I want to lose him as he's a terrific player however if you have £20m to spend and you elect to spend that on McGinn as opposed to McGregor who I reckon we'd seriously consider selling at that sort of offer then I'd see that as madness. McGregor has also performed at a far higher level, played superbly and scored goals in Europe against top sides like Bayern Munich, Leipzig, Monchengladbach, Zenit, etc.
  9. Yeah all fair points. I guess bar expanding the stadium significantly there isn't much scope to bring in considerable extra revenue would that be fair? Is there a stadium expansion planned?
  10. As much as I loved Sutton as a player for us he's pantomime as a journalist, pundit, whatever you want to call him and I don't pay much attention to what he says. The whole my club is bigger than yours debate is a waste of breath anyway, football has moved on from simply being a big club and the very notion is very disruptive now both ways, given economic environment, etc, etc. By that I mean some Oligarch could rock up at Leyton Orient tomorrow and turn them into a 'big club' by pumping in billions.
  11. Looking at it from the outside a bit obviously but I'd argue here if you can keep the core of that young side together then the extra revenue doesn't become that important, it's not all about spending money to reach your objectives. You have some terrific young players that if you hold onto them, you have the perfect coach to develop them (it's the thing he's best at imo) and that could see you break into the top 6.
  12. Know this from someone who worked under him at Celtic, apparently he loves the idea of working abroad, Spain or Italy and is already fluent in the former (also has a house there) and is taking lessons on the latter. Good thing for you guys I guess is if he were to get a job in la liga or Serie A next it would mean he'd have had to have done a very good job at Leicester to get such jobs.
  13. Would that be the Dembele who we already had agreed a deal with three months prior to Rodgers arriving? Or our idiot CEO who sits at the top table of the ECA and who has knocked back Arsenal and countless other EPL clubs over the years to move? Or our 1 and 2 million dollar punts like Virgil Van Dijk, Victor Wanyama, etc, etc? Try and get your facts right before emphatically pontificating. I'm gutted Rodgers left us still, as he's a tremendous manager all things considered but your posts on here are consistently pathetic and condescending, hounding anyone who dares suggest he has any sort of shortcoming.
  14. I think your woefully misinformed my friend, for example he actually played for Celtic long before he was manager. Throughout Celtic's history our most prominent figures have been protestant, Jock Stein, Kenny Dalglish, Danny McGrain, Scott Brown, etc, etc. I could go on all day. It was Rangers who had the Sectarian policy up until the early 1990's so much so that a legendary quote of Jock Stein's was that if he was given the choice of signing a catholic or a protestant he would always sign the latter as he knew Rangers would never sign the former. All the above aside it's dark ages stuff all this religon nonsense, it's football I'm and we all should be interested in. As long as folk like yourself continue to pontificate about religon within football the problems associated with it will never go away. In short, give it a rest.
  15. Rodgers will have hard data that tells him the current team isn't fit enough, he wouldn't have said that without the evidence to back it up. He was a stickler for fitness and analystics to prove it out at Celtic and that comes from someone on the inside. The difference a year later from when he arrived in our fitness was night and day. Apparently the numbers for the slowest/unfittest (sic) person a year later were better than the fittest person at the club the year previous.
  16. He was identified pre-Congerton! We still needed a CB when he arrived and his answer was to sign 'Marv' as he's now known who has played 60 minutes of football for us and is taking home 30k a week! Our recent scouting/recruitment is very much a shambles! We've often looked closely at Croatia/Zagreb in particular for players, we signed another CB, Simunovic from them a few years ago also.
  17. Tbh no sane person at Celtic ever expected him to be here past the summer, given you guys paid £15m for him there is no chance of us paying even 2/3 of that to get him permanent never mind anymore than that. The pain point with a lot of Celtic fans with him is with the board as we had been tracking him for a while and had the chance to get him 12 months before you guys signed him but wouldn't go to the £7/8m Zagreb wanted for him.
  18. My tuppenceworth on Benkovic after having watched him for a season. Excellent player, really excellent in fact, does everything really well, there is no obvious weakness in his game. I know I'll get responses he's not up against much up here and that's valid in relation to the standard of attacker he'll face in the EPL. However, we all said the same about Virgil Van Dijk and look how he's gone and done. I'm not saying Benkovic will be that good but you can tell he's a real cut above similar to what VVD was. On the negative side of things he seems to get injured pretty frequently, that said we play 60 odd games a season up here typically so that could be a reason why we pick up a lot of injuries in general, I guess in terms of number of matches the load will be less down at Leicester and he can be managed better in that respect. Do you guys think he'll be a first pick next season alongside Evans at the back? On another note, what has happened to Soyuncu this season, I notice he's not played much? I thought he would have turned out to be a very decent signing.
  19. They have been mates for a long time, they both started out at Chelsea coaching in the youth academy and have remained friends since.
  20. We tried to get him on loan last season and Liverpool blocked it because of Rodgers and the way he left in terms of compensation apparently. Would be surprised if this one happened as a result. On that note is Wilson any better than Harvey Barnes also? Surely better developing your own player than Liverpool's.
  21. If this transpires thats no bad thing imo, especially if Walsh is coming in who has an excellent track record in that regard. As long as that diddy Congerton is nowhere near your club, if he walks through the door then really start to worry.
  22. All the responses to my original post are good points and valid. Like I said if you can keep Rodgers on a leash somewhat in terms of transfers within a recruitment structure with a DOF and/or head of recruitment then I imagine you'll be fine in that regard. I and 99.9% of Celtic fans out there place most of the blame for transfers at the door of his crony Lee Congerton, who has bloated our squad full of shite and nigh on doubled our wage bill during Rodgers' time at Celtic.
  23. Think in the modern day given the vast wealth that now dominates the game has really burst the 'Big Club' myth. It was actually Rodgers leaving for you guys that really made me think about it. One person will argue the bigger club is the one playing in the bigger league against better and more competitive opposition. Equally someone else will point to their club being bigger as they have a richer history in terms of honours, have bigger fan base or whatever else. I think nowadays the notion of we are a bigger club than you, etc, etc is a pointless debate, particularly when things are so easily disrupted in that regard when Russian Oligarch's and middle east royalty can rock up and completely transform clubs and competitions overnight with their money. Everything seems relative now, every club bar a handful in the world are a selling club. For example you guys come and take our manager, at the next end of the scale, Chelsea come along and nick Kante. Even clubs like Man Utd, Liverpool, etc are victims of the same beast at the next level again when clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid come calling.
  24. I'm obviously very biased lol! But I'd say Henrik Larsson at £650k is up there with Vardy in terms of value and legendary status at their respective clubs. Can't think of too many others you'd say that are similar, maybe Cantona.
