  1. Seen on the BBC gossip section this morning there are rumours that Rodgers has a release clause should a Champions League club come in for him.
  2. Yeah get that impression too, I think if his name was anything other than Steven Gerrard the Rangers fans would have had him chased. No other Rangers manager in history would survive winning one trophy out of 9. Also his teams are very boring to watch, if he doesn't get results quickly at Villa and his style of play is the same as at Rangers then he may struggle.
  3. Yeah cos we've struggled to finish above them for the majority of Gerrard's time here In Gerrard's time at Rangers: Celtic: 6 Trophies Rangers: 1 Trophy
  4. Slippy slipping off to Aston Villa by the looks of things! Least they're getting £3m for him and his backroom team, only leaves then another £4.5m to find to see out the season
  5. I've said it loads but the specualation about Celtic being difficult to deal with in terms of Leicester is nonsense and that comes from an impecable source. Again from a very good source the deal breaker with Edouard was his own personal demands, that's also why Brighton walked away, his agents were demanding 80k per week basic. No idea if he ended up getting that at Palace.
  6. Agree with this, can't see them appointing an ex Liverpool manager being the biggest reason of all.
  7. Your major mistake there is even clicking into a daily record link, the epitome of an absolute gutter rag.
  8. Was quite funny how people on the match thread yesterday were saying how shit he was after half an hour then he went on to notch four goals
  9. Agree with this. I don't get why it's not just fed to Tielemans who then clips it in behind for Daka to run onto. The few times that has happened they have been all over the place.
  10. That was clever from Maddison but Kelechi was zoned out.
  11. The club needs to come before Daka though. What happens if he's loaned out in January and one of Kel or Vardy gets injured, they'd be expected to play 90 minutes, every week across potentially three competitions. Loaning him out and arriving at such a scenario is the very definition of shooting yourself in the foot.
  12. Loaning him out would be absolute madness. It's a long season and he'll be needed at some point.
  13. Yeah agreed but the likelihood is they'll need to overpay regardless of the level of player they go for. Tarkowski is a good example as prior to this takeover he wouldn't have even considered a club like Newcastle, now he probably would due to their ambition and the fact they'll be able to match a salary a club in the top 6 would offer.
  14. The higher up the league you are it does. That's why Liverpool spent so much developing Anfield and why Leicester are looking to increase the capacity at the KP. Everyone gets largely the same tv money in the EPL so that's why unlocking further revenue streams like increased match day income, european football, prize money for finishing higher up the league consistently can push clubs onto that next level. Ticket prices in the EPL are very pricey so if you can sell an extra 10k seats every second week that adds up to quite a differentiator in terms of revenue when you add that up over 19 games a season.
  15. They'll have to get ripped off to an extent. Newcastle will have to pay a premium in terms of transfer fees and wages to convince even good players to go there initially. Seen the exact same with Chelsea and Man City in the early days of their respective takeovers.
  16. Yeah but that's just the bigger clubs attracting more revenue as has always been the case as they have more fans, greater global appeal, etc, etc. There has never been and never will be a level playing field as better supported clubs for example will always yield more revenue, which allows them to buy better players, win more trophies, etc. The status quo would take a few years to deteriorate of course but it eventually would, Man City for example would eventually have to live within their means if they struggle to fill their stadium week on week. The difference with the above and now is we have an artificial playing field. An oligarch can simply rock up, take any club, for example a traditionally mediocre club like Man City, chuck billions at them and all of a sudden they are a major force. That's not healthy whereas organic competition as described above is.
  17. The EPL is turning into a league where success is defined on who has the richest owners. God knows what it'll be like ten years from now. Can't say I like where things are headed, true competition seems to be eroded as these oligarchs play real life football manager and ultimately those who throw enough money at it end up being successful. Doubt it'll ever happen but it'd be great if this could be torn up and clubs could go towards some 50+1, fan ownership model. The EPL in particular generates more than enough money from TV deals alone for this to be workable. Horse has bolted though now all these foreign owners have their claws dug in already.
  18. The fund that bought them is worth £320bn Whether or not Rodgers is the man they want who knows but one thing is for sure, Newcastle are now in a position to pay whatever they have to and they probably will and not bat an eyelid. FFP is a nothing, Man City have been circumventing it for years and Newcastle will do the same.
  19. Steven Gerrard shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Brendan Rodgers in terms of managerial ability. Hats off to Gerrard, whatever state Celtic were in he done a great job over the piece to win the league last season. That said any other Rangers manager who had delivered one trophy in three years would have been chased long before that. There's a very real chance had Covid not came on the scene he would have left at the end of his second season as the fans were on his his back after a capitulation post Christmas culminating to losing at home to Hamilton. He had an open goal at a treble last season (Celtic were out both cups) and again Rangers bottled it in the cups. If you ignore his reputation as a player he's nowhere near of the standard required to manage a club in the upper echelons of the EPL such as Leicester. Like I said earlier his 'style' of football is also like watching paint dry, even Rangers fans say as much.
  20. If folk are annoyed at the football Rodgers plays the now then you ain't seen nothing yet in terms of Gerrard, as negative and pragmatic as they come in terms of playing style.
  21. A bit from left field and a win or bust type appointment but Marcello Gallardo would be an interesting choice.
  22. I don't mean this disrespectfully but there's absolutely no chance of this.
