  1. Agreed, don't understand at all the hysteria and overreaction at what was admittedly a poor performance. Sitting third with 7 games to go, anyone with a grain of sense would have bitten your arm off for that at the start of the season.
  2. A shame and pretty petty on the match thread today folk seeming keen to get on his back and slate him, prior to the two goals of course.
  3. Neto at 40m would be a steal imo, he's going to the very top.
  4. In the real world he'll cost at least double that given what he cost in the summer and the season he's had.
  5. When you’ve got a stretched squad as has been shown this season with what happened in Europe it certainly helps to have a couple of players that are effective in several positions. Hmm although he’s captained us a fair few times a leader is not how I’d think of McGregor. He’s a very quiet unassuming player in that sense.
  6. I actually like Praet as a player, but for someone that’s in the main a squad option he’s quite one dimensional. It always helps if the guys 12-16 in the squad can fill in effectively in a couple of different roles.
  7. Midfield to me doesn’t seem the priority area in terms of needing strengthening. The thing about McGregor though is your signing a 6,8 and a 10. As much as I don’t think he gets in the strongest 11 he’s most definitely a considerable upgrade on the present cover in all three midfield positions. When money is tighter than usual I can see the logic in it. Similar to Edouard I wouldn’t read too much into McGregor’s form this season, the only thing he’s been guilty of is trying to do too much and doing the work of the whole midfield on his own. Like I’ve said before on here he and Edouard are the only two in our squad I’d be confident of making the step up to EPL level. He’d also be a really handy player in Europe as his ball retention is excellent. Technically he’s so unlike a Scottish player. Given how transitional this summer is going to be for us I’d hate to lose him and would hope the new team we assemble is built around him but I can see him wanting to go and I wouldn’t grudge him it at all given he’s been a great servant and won everything with us several times over. If Praet goes and you can bring McGregor in at pretty much a net zero situation then that’s great business imo.
  8. Goldstein is an absolute tosser. Only exceeded in the tosser stakes by Durham and Cundy. Talksport is clickbait for the ears in the main.
  9. I think the stuff around his height gets overstated, yes he's small but so are plenty of other players and that doesn't hold them back in their careers. The problem is it's not just physically where he needs to develop to be ready for first time fooball, it's most aspects of being ready, his development has really stalled the past 18 months. I agree Celtic haven't handled him particularly well, since Lennon came in anyway, but there's only a pathway to the first team if you earn the right and show enough in training and development games and he quite simply hasn't been doing that. A lot of the boys at at a similar age to him in our setup have caught up with him. I regularly listen to a Celtic podcast that covers our development squad's games and he's not really been pulling up any trees for a while now. That's why the sides like Barcelona, Man City, Bayern Munich are no longer courting him and it's sides like Ajax and Lille who probably view him as a bit of a punt now. There's so much hype around him because of the things he was doing at 13 and 14 years of age but even if you look at YouTube there's not too much of anythng spectacular since then. He still has a chance and still has a lot of potential but I don't get a great feeling about what's going to become of him now, particularly as he doesn't seem to realise where he is in his career, essentially with it all still to prove. From Leicester or whoever else's point of view though it's still a no brainer in terms of taking a punt on him, he's on a free, won't cost much in terms of wages and there's still potential to work with. He just needs to realise he needs to go somewhere and earn the right to play and not expect doors to be opened for him due to hype around him when he was much younger. He won't be part of the first team setup at Leicester, absolutely no way, he's miles off that, being involved in an EPL match day squad, trust me. As @Ric Flair suggested the best thing for his development at the moment if he were to sign for Leicester would be to immediately go out on loan to Leuven or a league 1 club and knuckle down and break into a first team and get some real experience. At the moment, he still needs to prove he can play first team football at any level before having designs on anything beyond that. I believe Dembele is a far better character and far more grounded than this example and I'd never wish his career to go the same way but he'll do well to choose his next move wisely, realise where he's at and not become the next Islam Feruz who had simialr levels of hype about him.
  10. Yeah completely agree with that but from what I can gather he has some delusions of grandeur. He'd get eaten alive at Championship level at the moment.
  11. No one knows for certain but from what I hear he's not interested in going on loan anywhere, he's refused to go on loan to both Scottish and English teams in his time with us, of that I know for sure. He wants to go somewhere where he'll be a first team squad member and will be given opportunities.
  12. Still got my suspicions this will happen also, particularly as his brother also plays for Peterborugh an hour up the road. The only thing I think may make him recitant is he's been quite clear he doesn't want to go and play reserve/U23 football anywhere. That's a large part of the reason he's leaving Celtic, lack of opportunities. He doesn't look ready for SPFL football yet so he'd be lightyears away from even making the bench at Leicester I reckon. I'd imagine he'd maybe be reluctant if he was signed on the premise of being an under 23 player. It's a catch 22 for him really as he needs to realise his level at the moment and that is he's not ready for first team football yet and he probably actually needs 12-18 months of regular reserve ort lower level football preferably to have any chance of developing. Had he went out on loan when he's had the chance he may have made the jump already. The specualation up here the last few months has been Ajax and Lille are the frontrunners. I'd imagine the pathway to first team football at both would be a less tough nut to crack than at Leicester.
  13. We're talking hypothetically of course. I'd expect/hope he will sign a new contract as there were reports as far back as January that he was in talks.
  14. Of course but you can't completely ignore the context here, in talking about Tielemans, if he weren't to sign a new contract then next season he's got a year to go and in any market or landscape that's not a position we want to be in with any sellable asset. In the context of Tielemans holding onto him another year in that scenario would be madness.
  15. Hate to say it but could easily see him more than holding his own at Real Madrid or Bayern. Madrid in particular need to start succession planning for Modric and Kroos at some point. Valverde is good enough to slot in for either but they need someone else also.
  16. I don't think Maguire's value is a good benchmark tbh it was obvious Man Utd got mugged off. Also a lot of top agents reckon there may be a correction coming in terms of transfer fees this summer. Elephant in the room I guess is also Tielemans contract, he needs to sign a new one soon as having two years to run on it basically gives you two windows to get near his full value. Waiting until next season is fine if he signs the contract, if not then this time next season your 6 months away from losing him for zip. I'd hate to see him leave as he's class and would be nigh on impossible to replace but he's not knocking back Bayern Munich if they have a bid accepted, there's not many if any players in the EPL, indeed Europe that knock back that move.
  17. I have an irattional hatred for Glendenning, he's a fat pompous, condascending w$%ker. McBurnie levels of hatred.
  18. Has boiled my piss for years re: Lawell. The times we have speculated to accumulate and paid Rodgers 80k a week we had turnover in the nine figure range. When we've went for the cheap and useless options like Lennon our turnover has halved.
  19. They are, hence why they are trying to pick up free agents like him and Depay et al.
  20. No surprise there, been an underwhelming signing. In hindsight terrific piece of business getting him on loan initially and not being stuck with him.
  21. It's a careful what you wish for scenario though, I've seen both sides of the coin. I've seen Celtic sides where there was still a financial gap compete well in the Champions League and conversely I've seen that gap now grow so seismicly that we've taken a few absolute hammerings. Leicester are obviously a better side than Celtic and have more money to compete by virtue of being an EPL club but the same fate could be bestowed on Leicester should they make the Champions League such is the ever widening gap between the "elite" clubs and the rest. We've seen for example Bayern absolutely emabaress Spurs, Barcelona and countless other sides in recent years. Bayern are maybe not the best example as they are far more ethically and prudently run than a lot of these new rich clubs but the example still highlights the gap between a small clutch of clubs and the rest.
