  1. Insightful post. People probably get fed up of me saying these things but there are huge parallels with his time at Celtic in this sense. He'd moan about not having the requisite quality/depth and then when given money he'd sign a whole bunch of players who never threatened the first IX and then when he left he'd say he never had enough money to take us to the next level, etc, etc. I get we made a horlicks of the McGinn transfer in particular which would have frustrated him but no manager gets all their top targets. He done the same last season at Leicester, went out and bought a whole bunch of players and not one of them has managed to nail down a starting spot which is telling and probably a large part of this season's downturn.
  2. That'll end well! I seen on the news today some of the union bears have already been arrested. Have to laugh at the videos the Rangers twitter has been posting, videos of legends like Souness and Gough pleading with the fans to behave
  3. If they're last visit to a city when they got to a European final is anything to go by then yes there will definitely be mental scenes. They've done absolutely tremendous to get to the final and I won't even try and admit I'm not jealous but I obviously hope they get soundly beaten!
  4. He’s class, desperate for him to sign permanently. If he develops in the next season or two as he’s been currently doing we’ll only have him another year or two tops though.
  5. Technically we still contribute more coefficient points to the total in terms of the two clubs over the 5 year period. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/how-celtic-rangers-coefficient-contributions-26852890.amp That changes next season right enough when the period ticks on another year and Rangers coefficient points will exceed ours. Quite happy for them to think they’ve done all the leg work and that we’ve swooped in and taken the CL spot anyway 😎
  6. I think he's being cute and it's part of his exit strategy.
  7. If going English and attainability Cooper for me is the stand-out, he's literally polished a turd in what he's done at Notts Forrest who have been a basket case for a long time.
  8. Part of the reason I didn’t want him at Celtic, the football his teams play in the main is bland and negative. it’s a double edged sword as I like going every week and watching open and expansive football, what we’ve become accustomed to under Ange and in Rodgers first 18 months. The problem with that though is it doesn’t translate very well to Europe as the teams we come up against tend to play the same way but have better players and we can’t really switch to being a pragmatic, defensive side for 6, 8 or 10 games a season.
  9. It was a fast rebuild. After the first 6 games, we've went unbeaten for 30. No Celtic fans thought we'd come close to winning the league this season let alone a double so in that sense it's been very fast. Throw in the fact it's a very good Rangers side and it makes it all the more remarkable and quick. Europe was always going to be a write off this season and we obviously prioritised the league with our team selections in Europe much of the season. For example, we played Betis away with Montogomery and guys like that in the side. Also, Rangers poor domestic form is a bit unfair to Celtic given if we win our last two games it'll be equal as the fourth highest points total ever to win the SPL/SPFL. A lot of seasons Rangers points total if they win their remaining games would also win you the league. I have reservations about his style in Europe as don't think we have the resources to get good enough players to play the top sides at their own game, oddly similar to what Rodgers tried to do in Europe and failed. Think it's unfair to judge him in Europe as yet though as he basically had two games against Bodo Glimt with his own team post January.
  10. His style is remarkably similar to what Rodgers has become. "Protect the zero" is his mantra.
  11. Needs to be an imaginative appointment imo if the club want to get back to the heights of Rodgers first two seasons. Appointing one of the UK based merry go round managers and it'll be quite predictable in that the results will probably be pretty mediocre. Mid table type positions consistently.
  12. I agree but I think the board will give him the summer to try and rebuild. I think they’ll believe he has enough credit in the bank to warrant that. The thought of him undertaking a recruitment focussed rebuild though gives me the fear and can’t see it going well, hence my prediction.
  13. Yeah that’s true, there wasn’t any issue defensively from set pieces with us. Weirdly we went something like a couple of years not scoring from any but that transcends a few managers tbh.
  14. A long time ago he should have just went man for man, allowed the strongest aerially to attack the ball and try and make first contact. It wouldn’t have been perfect and goals would still have conceded but it would have at least stopped the bleeding somewhat until summer when the personnel could be addressed. Instead he perseveres with the definition of insanity, doing the same thing but expecting different results.
  15. Personnel aside (and if you want to analyse that he’s been here three years so it’s his team) if you are paying a manger £10m a year and he can’t rectify or at least improve the teams shambolic ability to defend set pieces then huge questions needs to be asked imo. Genuinely seen amateur teams defend set pieces better. Feels to me that Rodgers has checked out and is in full on PR mode now, promoting himself and shifting the blame as he formulates his exit strategy. I recall it being obvious he’d checked out at Celtic from the summer until he left in the February. I can see him staying the summer and then being mutually consented come October/November time.
  16. He shouldn't but I don't know why folk are surprised, he'll always try and deflect as opposed to shouldering the blame himself. He was the same at Celtic and Liverpool before that when things didn't go so well.
  17. That's on him then as he's been here long enough now that it's very much his team in every sense.
  18. It's taken him his time to find his feet at Rangers, he's only really managed to nail down a starting place in the last 6 months but he does look a very decent player. Powerful, very quick and can cope at both CB and LB. With the attributes he has could see him doing well in the EPL, if he keeps developing of course.
  19. He’s looked very good for them in general second half of the season tbf.
  20. Pains me to say it but monumental achievement from Rangers. Only one team deserved to go through tonight.
  21. I remember everyone saying this about a month after I first joined the forum
