FantasticMrFuchs Posted 13 July 2015 Share Posted 13 July 2015 Nintendo has just issued a short statement announcing that president Satoru Iwata has passed away at the age of 55. The statement reads: Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth. Iwata was forced to skip last year’s E3 due to his poor health, and shortly afterwards underwent surgery to remove the bile duct growth. A few months later, in the wake of concerns over his health, he said via Twitter “I’m progressing well”. A talented programmer, Iwata first joined Nintendo’s HAL Laboratory in the 1980s, where he worked on games like Balloon Fight and EarthBound. He became a Director of the company in 2000, and in 2002 was appointed as only the fourth President of Nintendo when he succeeded Hiroshi Yamauchi. http://kotaku.com/nintendos-president-has-passed-away-1717386412

kingcarr21 Posted 13 July 2015 Share Posted 13 July 2015 Loved Nintendo growing up. A true great in the gaming Industry sadly taken far too young. RIP
Wymsey Posted 13 July 2015 Share Posted 13 July 2015 It's a shame Nintendo have struggled with failing to be dominant in the market, as quite a few of their games in the past have been classics.
z-layrex Posted 13 July 2015 Share Posted 13 July 2015 I thought it was sad that after such an incredible career his last public announcement before his death was an apology for Nintendo's E3 direct this year. He was an incredible man. They could only fit half the original Pokemon Blue & Red games on the cartridge back then, he single handedly fixed the code to make it fit. He also re-coded vast amounts of Pokemon Stadium without any sort of manual or guide. He also always conducted himself with kindess and respect throughout his career. RIP xx
