Vardy called up for England!

Recommended Posts

Guest Col city fan

Vardy was fine. All effort and getting in behind the defence in a game that was played on a pitch like you'd see on Vicky Park.

He didn't have to score. He did what he needed to do, we won 6 nil and it was a decent performance.

I'd play Vardy. Like Schlupp when allowed to get forward, he creates space for the other players which is crucial at any level.

I 'enjoyed' the commentator stating that Vardy had got in Rooney's way at one point, when a) it was patently the other way round and b) the camera then caught Rooney apologising! Also, at the start of the match, he was waffling inconsequentially every time Vardy touched the ball, thus helping an impression form that JV wasn't doing anything.

Of course the commentator wasn't shrewd enough to notice the Rooney apology either.

What did you expect, it was on ITV, the worst broadcasting company to attempt sports coverage history.

You're all saying he was rarely passed the ball because you were basically watching vardy all game urging them all to pass to him. When the mind is focussed on one player playing then the game isn't enjoyable and it seems that he isn't being passed the ball much. Watch our game against villa with the same mindset and the same thing will happen.

Absolute rubbish. Shaw looked to play the ball inside the majority of the game. When delph came in who occupied positions vardy should have been in, the ball was delivered to him. Vardy should have hugged the touchline far more than he did. Having said that he should have been played in far more than he was.

I think its quite obvious. England simply do not play as a team. We aren't a unit, just individuals which is why we will never win anything. We need a manager that can bring the team together and get them fighting for one another.

Step up Pearson!!!

I think yesterday proved that, i've suggested it (Along with many others) for a while now, but yesterday confirmed it. You might have the odd clique, group that play as unit, mates, but you won't progress and do well with that scenario.

Whilst the inclusion of Vardy made me excited about England again I also think after yesterdays showing it's pushed me ever further away from the national team and the interest I have in it.

I was thinking watching the game that he's the only player (certainly in the team, possibly in the squad) who hasn't played for one of Man City, Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton or Spurs at some point.

I bet that squad is full of cliques and it must be a nightmare when you turn up and the only person you know is Harry Kane.

I go back to something I mention yesterday, did anyone pick up on what Ian Wright said before the match? He said something like he had noticed it didn't seem like Vardy had been accepted and he seemed to be on the edge of the group.

This suggestion of a clique is total bollocks.

Terry, Lampard, Gerrard, Cole etc have gone. Rooney is about the only one remaining from that circle of *****.

I'm not having it that Barkley, Chamberlain, Kane, Shaw, Clyne and Cahill are some sort of clique, whatever that means. We have a mostly likeable (Sterling and Rooney apart) young squad.

Last night just wasn't the game for Vardy, and whilst I don't think he got the breaks, he seen plenty of the ball in the first half and has only himself to blame in the second half as he didn't show enough arrogance or confidence. I can't see Vardz having the confidence to take on the shot Kane did for example. Its something for him to work on.

I honestly think he'd be more suited to the Switzerland game.

Better pitch, against a better team he's someone you'd want up top. Giving the defence a nightmare for 90 minutes.

Not sure he'll start though.  :nigel:

Pleasantly surprised to see a really positive piece about Vardy in the sun today.

If he carries on for us how he has been since the back end of last season I'm sure he'll get another chance in the final 2 qualifiers. Especially as the group should be won by then. I think Hodgson thinks a lot of him.

Do me a favour and grow up? Crying because players didn't pass vardy the ball. He's hardly a Leicester legend.

Maybe because he's quiet to begin with? Do you fit in straight away at a new job/surroundings?

Not only that but would you want to be best buddies with someone filmed shouting 'yo jap, walk on' repeatedly in a casino? I would be embarrassed to be there mate

I'm embarrassed to be associated with certain city fans but that's life "mate".

Eh, given club representation is the only reason to watch the turgid shit that England has become, watching vardy be excluded in the play was frankly annoying - I watched for vardy and they did their best to avoid giving him any touches at all.

Not sure why people are over analysing the match, it was a pointless exercise for any player trying to stake a claim.

If you can't play with a philosophy against San Marino then there really is no hope. England made very little attempt to pass it with any urgency and Vardy was not the  only player who's strengths were nullified by the way they played.

The majority of that side yesterday are good ball players but they all passed it so slowly and often didn't even show the bravery to play a positive ball.

From an England point of view it's in games like this where the manager needs to be getting them playing as a unit with pace and quick passing. That is irrelevant of which individuals are playing.

Nobody in the England team did anything more than 'ok' yesterday and as a unit they merely did the job with no thought of developing the sort of  football we would need to play to compete at these major tournaments. You can't just turn up and hope to be a good side all of a sudden.

I definitely felt that when Kane and Walcott came in they were reticent to pass to him. But they are all vying for a place and/or feel like they should start ahead of him.

Of course, all of the other England players are well behaved model professionals.

If you take 4 strikers suppose it depends on whether you consider Sterling/Walcott/Welbeck to be strikers or not. You've got Rooney, Kane, Sturridge and them 3 all ahead of Vardy in the pecking order imo. I do think he offers something different to the other main strikers and hope he sneaks a place on the plane but think the odds are against him, needs to have a fantastic season and score more goals to stand any chance of inclusion.
