Looking to build gaming desktop

Recommended Posts

i bought the mrs Rollercoaster Tycoon World for valentine's day since she really wanted it. turns out neither of our laptops are powerful enough to play it. thinking of building my own PC that can run it but wondering where to start to get cheap parts. Even if this ran it on minimum i would be happy. got a rather substantial budget i can use but still looking for cheapest possible option. can anyone help with builds/places to buy parts?

specs i'm aiming for by the way.

Use something like Overclockers to put a spec together so that you can be sure each component will be compatible with one another and the board, then  go from there and see where you can get each part cheaper

Strongly disagree.

By all means use their custom PC building site as a decent research tool but the guys they hire don't seem like 'specialists' to me:  My computer didn't function on arrival because the hdmi port was covered by the casing (despite supposed stress testing which would have surely required plugging a screen in) and I ended up learning how to install graphics cards myself (very simple actually) because after they fixed my first issue and sent it back to me it now turned out the GPU was dodgy (despite a 2nd round of supposed stress testing) so it had to be taken out and sent back and I installed the new one myself.  Far too much hassle and it wasn't particularly cheap either.  In future I'm taking the time to do my own builds - it will take less time to get to the working PC stage and it will cost less too.
