Almost as dead as a Dodoo (Gray)

Almost as dead as a Dodoo: Leicester starlet heads towards helicopter tail rotor and has to be saved by stewards as Premier League leaders fly to PFA Awards

  • The Leicester City squad were flown down to London for the PFA Awards

  • Foxes had a tight turnaround for the bash after home win over Swansea

Stepping out of the chopper Joe Dodoo almost walked into the propeller

Only a quick-intervention from a steward prevented a nasty accident

With Mahrez, Jamie Vardy and N'Golo Kante all nominated, the club wanted to make sure the players made it to Grosvenor House on time after their Sunday afternoon kick-off.

The club paid for a fleet of five helicopters to fly the Foxes from their Belvoir Drive base to Battersea Heliport for quick hop to west London for the ceremony.

That need for speed almost cost Dodoo, 20, as he bounded off the chopper ahead of the rest of his group.

Seemingly unaware of the stewards' instructions Dodoo took a wrong turn towards the rear of the aircraft

Looking casual in a tracksuit and cap, the winger made a wrong turn and headed straight towards the deadly spinning blades at the rear of the aircraft.

Seemingly unaware of the peril he was headed directly into, Dodoo got a lucky escape when a quick-thinking marshall ordered him to stop.

The former England Under 18 international was just yards away from the blades spinning at hundreds of revolutions per minute and a horrific accident.

Riyad Mahrez could only watch on in horror as the incident unfolded in front of his eyes

With Mahrez looking on shell-shocked from the helicopter door, Dodoo was unable to turn back and had to be directed around the back of the chopper away from the propeller.

Another marshall came around from the other side of the aircraft and appeared to reprimand the youngster before escorting him to safety.

A sheepish looking Dodoo headed for the safety of the terminal, no doubt grateful for the steward's intervention.

From there night improved as Mahrez picked up the Player of the Year gong and Vardy collected a commemorative plate for breaking the league's consecutive goal record.

Would be typical Leicester to be 2 games away from the title only for our players to get beheaded in a freak accident.

Taking all the "Can the foxes keep their heads in the title race" headlines a little bit too literally...

Could have been a terrible accident. Hope he was not too shaken. There are many, many players over the years who would have been far more deserving of being mashed up in the tail rotor of a helicopter but I can't think of any from the current squad who deserve it.
