Deeney bid rejected - Signs new contract with Watford

Recommended Posts

What we've done is something that other clubs have been searchinng for for years. Man Utd found it under Ferguson all those years ago.

That something is the perfect formula for success. Owners, backroom staff, management, playing staff.

Now that we've found that formula, all we need to do, is enhance and repeat. The cost is meaningless because of the wealth of the owners and the tv and prize money we'll now get.

Deeney enhances the formula so £30m buys you that enhancement.

We need to stop looking at the name of a player, rather the skill set he brings.

Deeney is Okazaki but with greater physical attributes. Its as simple as that. Just as Keane is a younger Morgan and Dunk is a younger Huth.

The formula stays the same, you just look for the same skills to match the formula and hopefully enhance them with additional attributes or a younger age.

All this talk of £30m being too much for Deeney is now irrelevant. He upgrades the team. Case closed.

Let Arsenal or whoever buy someone else for £10m that people would see as better business. They'll still ultimately fail as their overall model is wrong whereas ours is right.

We'll win something else next year and this talk of overspending will be long forgotten.

great post !

Great post unfortunately it will fall on deaf ears though, most won't see past the price and will prefer a pretty import over a tried and trusted in this league player! 30m is massively ott but unfortunately u will have to pay over the odds for any prem teams top players

We're actually quite keen on keeping our captain.

Fans are yes but at board level they might be very tempted to cash in especially for that amount of money.

Perhaps you could list the internationals and consistent performers at a very high level (Premier League Winners, World cup winners/runners up etc) that you would like us to buy, would come to us and cost $30M or less?

I was talking about in regards to that list where it was pointed out that they are worth 30 million + and why.

We aren't going to sign any players of that standard realistically but it doesn't mean that we should start throwing 30 million at above average Premier League players.

At least Andy Carroll will be worth over £30m again. Absolute madness.

Well put! We are still the Leicester of old but with tons £££!

£30m spent is not just for a proven goal scorer but for a player that works his socks, demonstrates leadership and passion for the game, loyalty to his club. We're still buying the same but just paying Premier League Champions' rates. Don't expect any of this quality to come at bargain basement rates!

What will happen on Deeney Day?  Will you be crying instead of celebrating an ultimately pointless goal against the team he has just joined?

Get you  :appl:

There is every possibility that the board could cash-in, but it would certainly be through gritted-teeth. It's not the money we need - it's the player himself, or at least someone with his leadership, drive, level-headedness, and most importantly, commitment to the club. You can't just recruit that sort of thing.

Sounds good ...   we'll have him !

After the meeting today the Watford board have reiterated that Deeney is not for sale...

Wonder what the player thinks?

They were never going to say anything different. They cannot lose favour with the fans and sanction the move as the aftermath from the support would really dent their relationship. This way, the player and only the player can appear to be the one to push the move through.

This really makes it more straightforward. If he now asks to leave, everything will happen much more quickly.

in all honesty if watford keep deeney i can see them surprising a few people this season. walter mazzarri is a very good, underrated manager. his reputation hasn't been helped due to the pressure of managing big clubs like inter.

To be honest, it's very difficult to be successful at Inter right now, due to the environment. There's a very high expectation to replicate Mourinho's treble. I wouldn't look too far into his Inter record - which wasn't actually all that bad.

Benny?

Hill!

...and the Jets.

maybe Inler, Watfords manager managed him at Napoli

I would actually be pretty happy with this. He's captained the Swiss team (as has Behrami, who we already have). Could work out nicely. All conjecture on my part, mind.

Really not sure Ulloa is a good shout too.

Comes from the Chelsea fan that told me we was after an under 21.

We then signed the sultan nephew.

Yes I did post it here.

Seems if deeny don't happen we are talking to Chelsea but he won't say who yet.
