Aiming for 6th or 7th realistic now?

I’m starting to think 6th is doable .... would be lovely to be chasing them ‘lions’ instead of them coming after us! .... who knows, if they famously bottle again then as it stands tonight 5th it is!!!!

We're not giving Arsenal a game in hand and an 8pt start and catching them with 15 games left. This is on par with the "top four finish" a month a go.

7th is very obtainable especially as Burnley have the easier teams away and the harder teams at home left.

If we have a great 2 months...April is the defining run in....The must win games, to claim either

a great 7th....or a magnificent 6th....

H....Newcastle

A....BURNLEY

H...Soton

A...C.Palace..

The questions against those awkward opponents, plus that biggy against Burnley....thats how long we might

have to wait..dont expect or wait for Burnley to implode before then....they are a good unit..

Finishing with Spurs away in May....it'll be interesting to see if something is to play for... !!

Still an outside chance of 6th. Arsenal go through mediocrity from here to may and we could catch them. Spurs witht the Wembley jitters. Well after 2 years ago we can dream again!

We've done well since Claude took over but the last time we were aiming high we came back down to earth against Palace and Watford.Had we got a return of 4 points from that we wouldn't have been far off a go at 4th. Not to be this time.

Dependent on cup competitions.

It would be playing in at least three qualifying rounds to make the group stages of the Europa League

Does that mean if Arsenal win Europa and a top 4 team win the FA cup?

I think we'd do alright in Europa. We certainly have a better 2nd string than the recent English teams like Everton & Soton

You’d need teams in the top six to win League Cup and FA Cup. It’s not million off when you look at the League Cup semis and the draw for the 4th round of the Cup

Promising signs. 7th should definitely be a target.

But as we know with Leicester, we'll up our game against the "big 6" but then often fall flat against the lower sides. Consistency is key. This point at Chelsea will only be meaningful if we back it up by beating Watford at home.

Can't  see Bristol City overcoming Man City, so a Man City v Chelsea/Arsenal league cup final adds sixth place to they Europa League spots.

Now all we need is either us or one of the top 6 to win the FA Cup and 7th will get in.

Does anyone know what happens if Man City win the Champions League and Arsenal the Europa League, can we get any extra spots?

I think we need to take each game as it comes and see where we end up. When we had a good run before the Palace defeat, people were saying we'd finish top 4. Then we lost to Palace and Watford and some were calling for Puel to be sacked and saying we'd be in a relegation battle. And now we've smashed Huddersfield and got a draw (should have been a win) at Stamford bridge and people are saying we can challenge top 6 again. Realistically for me top 7 is achievable as I've said all season we will finish above Burnley. As well as they have done, we are a far better team with far better players and many more pound notes as Dyche would say. Arsenal are all over the place and are a sinking ship but being 8 points behind them and them having a game in hand is alot to catch up. We'd have to have an incredible run for that to happen. But strap in folks, the Leicester City roller coaster continues, and I for one, wouldn't have it any other way!

You are of course quite correct, it was posted a bit tongue in cheek ... but it would be so enjoyable to be threatening the spudders (which is clearly not going to happen this season!) and Arsenal are quite frankly very ordinary at present (I’m convinced most teams end up playing against their reputation rather than the cohesiveness of their team at present) ...

Not quite right.

4 Champions League spots + 3 Europa spots.

Champions League goes to top 4 in the league. 5th in league gets Europa.  FA Cup and League Cup winners get Europa.  If a cup winner also qualifies through league position, then the cup winners Europa spot is given to next place in the league.

So, if teams in the top five win one of the cups then 6th place gets Europa. If both cups are won by top 6 teams then 7th gets Europa.  If Arsenal win the Europa then they qualify for Champions League even if they finish outside top 4, like Man U did last season (finishing 6th in the league).  In that circumstance we get 5 Champions League places plus 3 Europa.  Presuming Arsenal finish in the top 8 of the league, 8th place gets Europa, just like Southampton did last season.

Arse have an easy Jan but very tough Feb. We might need to beat spuds to kick Arse out of Europe. Still lots to play for. COYB

No country can have more than 7 teams in Europe.

See last season 16/17 -  Manchester United won the Europa League but only Everton and Arsenal went to the Europa League 17/18, there was no additional spot . England as a nation gives up the spot and one of the teams in the qualifiers gets pushed forward a level. Southampton have never qualified for Europe in 8th recently - they were in the top 7

The only recent occasion that 8 English teams qualify for Europe was the season when West Ham qualified via fair play. There is no qualification by fair play any more

My bad.  Too early in the morning!  You are correct.
