Dragovic

Recommended Posts

In my opinion, Dragovic passed his acid test against Moratta and Hazard today with flying colours and I think we should sign him up. Didn't really make any mistakes and won his duels against Moratta for the most part. Moratta is off form and Chelsea were clearly tired, but against the reigning champions on their home patch - the guy played very well.

There was a moment where he beautifully sidestepped Hazard and took the ball forwards on the halfway line. As my stream wasn't the greatest I initially thought this was Maguire and said out loud "Maguire is just too good!" until the commentator said "great play from Dragovic!" I think that's a huge compliment because Harry has been a revelation for us in changing the way we play. The Maguire / Dragovic combination now has two clean sheets in two games, seem to have a good understanding between one another and Drago is also pretty good on the ball also.

Don't get me wrong, in terms of overall potential, I would put Maguire on a level above Dragovic, but I think he looks like a more than competent Premier League centre back to me. Less rash than Benny, better on the ball than Morgan / Huth although not as good as them defensively. Looking like being a very solid signing, though I hope I haven't given him the kiss of death and cursed him to a bad run now!

Agree .... We look more composed defending with these two at the back and can retain possession.

I like the look of him and whilst no big upgrade on Morgan an ample replacement for a Championship Winning Captain at 26 so not a bad replacement and quite a compliment!

The only fear I would have is that Benny did ok after he was drafted in last year but didn't build on it. Same thing might happen Dragovic.

Dragovic is a much better player, so assured in everything he does whereas Benny is prone to lapses in concentration.

Outstanding again. It really isn't a coincidence that we look so much more solid defensively with Dragovic in for Morgan and Amartey in for Simpson.

To be fair to Simps and Morgan. Chelsea were shocking today. It's also much easier to defend well when we are attacking for most of the match.

I agree Dragovic looks good but I'd much rather Simpson over Amartey at RB

I imagine that part of the reason we were able to be attacking for most of the match is precisely because, in Dragovic, we had another CB who was comfortable on the ball, as well as having more forward-going full backs.

I'd like to direct you to this video of Lionel Messi (5ft 5in) scoring one of the best headers i've ever seen, to demonstrate that jumping is about muscular leg strength and technique, rather than height....

I'm 6 foot 3 and can't jump.... lol

Or from a perspective many of this forum will have seen, how often did 5'7" Hume outjump 6'4" De Vries? Height helps but it's not everything
