Released by Everton at the age of 13. Last offers mentioned were in the region of £1m, including one from his former club.

Central to attacking midfielder, currently at four goals and one assist for the Rovers' U23.

And only 17, sounds promising.

Rovers youngster Callum Wright has today joined Leicester City for an undisclosed fee.

The 17-year-old scholar, who joined Rovers two seasons ago, attracted the attentions of several Premier League clubs after an impressive first half of the season.

Wright has made 14 appearances for Rovers’ high-flying Under-23s this term, scoring seven goals, and has helped the club’s Under-18s reach the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup, scoring in the fourth round victory over Watford.

Rovers were eager for Wright to sign a professional contract with the club and made an exceptional offer to the player, but the attacking midfielder decided his future lay away from Ewood Park.

Rovers’ Academy manager Stuart Jones said: “Ultimately, we did everything we could to try and keep Callum, but the situation was taken out of our hands when Premier League clubs became interested.

“He’s a young player and when Premier League clubs came calling both he and his family were keen to move on.

“I think it reflects well on the quality and standard of players we’re producing at the Academy, and we will continue to develop players for the first team and work hard to keep them at this football club, because this is the ideal environment for young players to develop and progress.

“This has been demonstrated in recent weeks by the club’s commitment in getting a number of players from our Under-23 squad – and most recently John Buckley – to sign new long-term contracts.”

Everyone at Rovers would like to wish Callum well in his future career.

Hopefully you will be right but how excatly do you deduce that from the information provided...?

(ie "...released by Everton at 13 ; "...scored four goals this season at U23" and "...we paid £1m for him")

I suppose any situation where a former club is involved, trying to re-sign one of their former youth players acts as a pretty good indicator.

If he's scoring goals for the U23s at only 17 he must have been promoted from the U18s already. Plus if we've signed him he must have been scouted.

Except you didn't, you continued where Everton left off 2 years ago.
