Don't sell at any price. It's about more than just how good we are at the back- it's about not being perceived as a selling club and standing our ground.

Make it clear to Harry and Man United that he won't be going this summer and we won't be entertaining offers. Maybe next summer, if there's still interest there, but we won't be selling 2 key players against our will in one window.

I'm confident that's how the owners will be approaching it.

It's the worry of Vardy wanting out if we get tempted to take the cash that bothers me.

Vardy will be going nowhere, he's too old to to command a transfer fee we will accept. A little over two weeks left in this window and Vardy will be 32 by the time the January window comes around. That ship has just about left port for Vardy.

Teams in China and USA may disagree.

Most Everton fans think Keane is the worst CB They've had for some time. Looks like he's been found out now as he's not playing on his 18 yard box anymore like he was for Burnley - same applies when buying Tarowski. Gibson has looked very average for Boro last season and is about 4 inches smaller than Harry and Mawson would cost £30m and he is not worth that at all.

I agree, Morgan and Huth looked like worldies for us in our title winning season with two narrow full backs and a hard working midfield being close to them when we were defending. No space in our defence and they invariably dealt with any cross that came in the box.

Be wary of overrating Burnley centre halves as they play in ideal conditions.

Serious question but when was the last time a PL club sold a player to a Chinese or American club that they would have preferred to keep?

Those countries are for players in semi retirement.

Probably Oscar.

He pretty much unperformed and they got £60m IIRC? It was a sell all day long for Chelsea.

It would be like us getting a £40m bid for Slimani.

I don't think a PL club has ever sold a player they'd prefer to keep in that case.

Oscar definitely wasn't under performing, even if £60m was an offer they couldn't refuse they'd have preferred to keep him.

Stinks of man united trying to un settle Maguire before the opening day of the season - doubt Maguire will be starting that game anyway. They did the same to Jose Fontè before the 16/17 season before Southampton opened the season away at old Trafford.

Why should Everton swoop?
The Toffees experienced inconsistency at the back last season, with Michael Keane struggling to maintain good form, while Ashley Williams fell out of favour.

If Maguire was to join the Merseyside outfit then he would be an automatic starter, probably alongside Keane.

Phil Jagielka remains the captain of the club, so even though his game time could end up limited, he remains an important figure.

Mason Holgate is still perfecting his craft, so it is likely that Williams would be the defender sacrificed to make way for Keane.

Do they have a chance?
Everton have proven before that they are prepared to spend big in the transfer market, but they could struggle to compete with United.

Financially, the Red Devils trump them, but the lure of moving to Old Trafford is likely to be far greater than a switch to Everton.

Maguire could continue his upward trajectory by playing for a club competing in the Champions League and challenging for the title.

The former Hull City centre-back proved on the global stage that he is ready to take that next step.

With that in mind, Everton may have plenty of work to do to convince him to move to Merseyside.

Dunno why I just have a feeling he loves us and won't go. Maybe I'm biased but it just feels different to Riyad or Kante who actively gave the impression they wanted to move on

sorry mate but its one of the biggest clubs in the world, you don't really say no when they come knocking and he's had a taste of the big time this summer

would agree with you if it was a sideways looking move like Everton

Just reading through some of this thread puts me in mind of Moaninho unsettling Drinkwater by hinting that he may want him just before we played them....hmmmmm....what's our next premier league game?
