Well if he wants to get back in the england squad he needs regular first team football. If Maguire goes Utd that's another place down the pecking order for Smalling.

I take your point but think he'd rather fight for his place. If Maguire does go i hope i'm wrong.

Why does Maguire want to leave Leicester for United? The answer, more money, champions league football, bigger stage, better players etc etc.

So Surely all those factors would mean smalling wouldn't want to leave Man united for Leicester City?

More chance of actually playing football though. That might well help. Not saying it would definitely but the guy wants to play and Jose doesn’t rate him that highly.

The derp is strong in this thread.

The club are NOT looking to sell.

The fact is Maguire will be offered a new contract, there's no rush for him to sign it. He has shed loads of time on his current contract.

Should he sign that contract (it'll no doubt be negotiated a top team interest clause), STILL don't we don't need to sell unless they meet our valuation, which I believe will still be retained this season.

I know you are right. But would Smalling think like that? All top professionals need a bit of arrogance about them and He might be arrongant enough to fancy being first choice this season or arrogant enough to think he could move to a bigger club than Leicester and play every week.

We conceded 60 goals last year, only three less than the year before. Even if he agitated for a move and we decided to cash in, I don't think it would be the end of the world.

I want him to stay now purely because it's late in the window and I don't want the club to be seen as selling two of it's best players in the same window.

Defensively he's not anything special right now, but his use of the ball is exceptional and we all know how vital that might be to a team like us next season. The fee we could get for him now though is madness and it would be tempting if we knew our arsehole from our elbow in the transfer market so late on.

It’s possible he wouldn’t I guess, but I’m sure he knows he’s stagnating at Amanda Utd and Keicester are becoming a bit of a shop window. So it’s possible and it makes sense from the perspective of a deal.

I agree entirely. Whilst my preference would be to keep him, there's plenty of decent attainable CBs about currently so even if we were to replace him with someone marginally worse I doubt we'd be much worse off in terms of goals conceded.

Your right it's a deal that would make sense to all 3 parties including Smalling just think it would be a tough sell. Reminds me of when we tried to buy Oxlade Chamberlain after we won the league makes sense on paper hard to sell it to the player and that was when we had champions league football to offer.

Press is definitely behind the move to Manure. Comments like LC are set to make the move hard. LC to stand in the way. Maybe LC should just roll over and say tickle please, Then other have a Middlesboro £25mn defender lined up as a replacement, that seems pricey for a Championship player. As if we don't have enough Championship players already.

Whether he goes in this window or not, this is the beginning of the end of his time at Leicester even if he signs a contract extension.

These big clubs know how to manipulate these situations and will know that even if they don't sign him now they've got the wheel's in motion by forcing us to offer a new contract.

Come January or next summer they'll simply come in again with another offer knowing that we won't/can't offer improved terms again, and they will be able to dangle the financial carrot in front of his and his agents eyes. Knowing that we'll have exhausted our avenues for keeping him, the emphasis will fall on the player to force the move and we'll simply end up with another Mahrez situation if we try and play hardball.

We can't win this game unless we are prepared to lift the lid on the wage structure, or go all out to try and establish ourselves as a top 4 side by bringing in the calibre of player's that will guarantee us such status.

Brilliant post

Must be tempting for the owners to fund all of the New Training Facility and a large chunk of the ground expansion by selling 2 of our better assets...£125M is a hell of a lot of money, you could buy about 3 clubs from Milan Mandaric for that.....

we would be stupid to sell lets be honest if we have any ambition then we keep him for another season, he knows the big clubs are looking which should in turn spur him on even more.

Keep at all costs... if they really want him then there valuation won't go down after one season. its a easy decision.

We’re almost signing certain players that are too good. I want him stay for many years and develop with us but that seems unlikely. Even if we keep him for one more year his value will increase even more so I don’t see why would take £65m right now under any circumstances.

The media piss me off. They love to complain about the increasing gulf between the top 6 and the rest of the league but then practically force these moves through as they think these players are too good for us. How are clubs in our position ever meant to close the gap if our players are being escorted away by the Daily Mirror who brainwash the nation in doing so?

Latest Percy article from today

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/07/26/man-utd-face-serious-fight-prise-harry-maguire-leicester/

Jose Mourinho is determined to make Maguire his fourth signing of the summer after midfielder Fred, right back Diogo Dalot and goalkeeper Lee Grant and has told the club’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, he wants a deal completed before the close of the transfer window on August 9.

But Leicester, who travel to Old Trafford for the opening match of the new Premier League season a day after the window closes, are thought to be reluctant to sell Maguire and are still hoping to persuade the 25-year-old to sign a lucrative new contract.

The 2016 Premier League champions are loathe to lose another big player following Riyad Mahrez’s £60 million move to Manchester City just over a fortnight ago and are not under any financial pressure to sell the defender, whom they consider central to next season’s plans.

Maguire, who has four years left on his existing deal with Leicester, is understood to be intrigued by the prospect of a move to Old Trafford but he is known to be happy at Leicester and is not expected to agitate for a move in the way Mahrez did.

United are thought to be willing to pay around £60 million with add ons for Maguire after Mourinho prioritised the signing of another centre-half, although the Portuguese is under pressure to offload one of the five central defenders already on the club’s books.

Take into account we have to pay 15% to Hull for the sell on clause I don't think  65m in today's crazy inflated market is enough.

Who realistically are we going to get in of real quality at this stage in the window?

Unless we have someone very solid lined up then I think we would be taking a huge risk selling him.

Jose probably knows it's going to be hard to push through a deal this window and will not be unhappy if he causes unrest in our camp before the opening day fixture.Mind games?
