France v Argentina round of 16 match thread

France on paper are fvcking formidable.  If they click they could win it.  To be fair any team in the world with Kante in would stand a chance.  They look dangerous.  X

Tbf, Argentina on paper should be something like:

Anyone

Mercado, Otamendi, Rojo, Tagliafico

Biglia, Banega

Dybala, Messi, Aguero

Icardi

They really should be ****ing formidable.

He's played the whole tournament leaving Icardi at home, dropping Aguero at will, barely giving Dybala a sniff, I'm not sure Biglia has kicked a ball, favouring kids who have never left Argentina over European stars, playing outright wingers as full backs.

The man is ****ing retarded.

Chile had an established way of playing thanks to Bielsa when he turned up and took the job. They've also got so few players that selection was a doddle. All he had to do was stroll around like a little bulldog winding them up and setting them off.

The Argentina job required tactical awareness, man management, an eye for a player, sound judgement, people skills, an astute mind. None of which he has.

One of the biggest **** ups I've ever seen. They should have broken the bank for Poch or Simeone, really milked it as a case of national pride and Messi's last hurrah and whatever else.

Can you imagine "Messi picking the team" to ever fly with these two?

They were a lot of people's favourites I thought.

Certainly my pick, always have been.

When they were struggling, it was sort of self explanatory.

Two wins and a draw in a pointless game isn't exactly struggling!

They looked poor in those games, struggling to a win.

I could watch the angle of Pavard's shot from directly behind him all day. The slow motion of the ball after its left his foot belongs on r/OddlySatisfying on loop.

The movement and spin on it is ridiculously pleasing.

Did one of the herberts in the studio complain about his connection? Ffs.
