It could quite easily be he was knackered after playing for Nigeria mid week and with Vardy not 100% and us having a game on Tuesday, perhaps Puel thought it better to rest him?

He can’t have been that knackered,he only played 2 minutes!

swings and roundabouts mate, you can argue it both ways.

When u look at the amount of times we’ve conceded first, the amount of times he’s chopped & changed the starting lineup on top of his bizarre/erratic tactical decisions and then add his all round lifeless persona to everything do you honestly think the players are motivated?!?!

I would imagine that Puel asked Vardy or the physio what he could give, and was probably told 30 ish minutes.

Vards would run through a brick wall for us with a broken leg before he tells the manager he can do “30ish minutes” His celebration & all round pissed off with a point to prove performance said everything.

Taking your comment as an accurate assessment (which it may or may not be, it is just your reading of it), then one could argue that the manager motivated him by doing what he did.

However, I suspect he was just being protected from the full 90.

Vards is our talisman & best player. If he’s fit enough to be on the bench he’s fit enough to start which he was for both the West Ham & Brighton games.

For Puel to start Okazaki ahead of not only Vards but Nacho as well was just another baffling decision to add to his list.

Top 10 of the premier league

Still in League Cup

Still in FA cup

Developing a young capable side

Playing pretty decent football at times

Personally I'd rather go back to drawing 0-0 with Pompey on a pissing cold Tuesday night Puel out.

Maybe this is why Puel dropped him then. In the last games Vardy was terrible, but against Brighton he looked really dangerous again.

I don't disagree with the point you're making but that one is a bit of a stretch given that we haven't even had the draw yet, let alone any games.  lol

To be fair, Vardy is one of those players who needs protecting from himself at times.

He played the title season with a cast on his wrist, and half of that season with regular injections in his ankle as well. That can't have done his body any good in the long term. Now he's even older and the same kind of issues could end up taking 2-3 years off the remainder of his career if mis-managed.

We're obviously not privy to the conversations that go on behind closed doors, but it may well have been a case that one or more of Vardy/the physio/Puel didnt want to risk him for the full 90, but happy for him to have a shorter run-out if required. If we'd been 2-0 up then Vardy may well have not came on at all.

Iheanacho has just came back from his second long-haul venture in 2 weeks, after the Thailand visit, so there's a very realistic chance he wasn't fully fit to start either.

For all we know, Okazaki may have been playing like Messi in training for the last few weeks and fully deserved the start. There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes which we never find out about, after all.
