Mascots

My kids football team are regular flag bearers, also player escorts. Both free ...

You make a good point. The club run plenty of freebie things for kids regardless of wealth. Both mine have been flag bearers a couple of times.

The actual mascot package is a glorified corporate package - and sold as such. I wouldn't begrudge any parent to buy a package if they can afford it.

Cardiff was my first home game since our champs league game against Madrid, there was elements of the club that were unrecognisable to me the other day. The entrance to the hospitality suite looks more like an entrance to a up market nightclub, shirt guns at half time, and now we're charging £600 for a kid to have the honour of walking out with their team. I get it footballs a business and has to keep moving forward,  I appreciate everything the owners have done but it's becoming too much like a show and moving away from what football for me is all about.

I was thinking this. We even have fan cam now . I wonder how many more Americanisations we could fit in?. Mind you, the day they have kiss cam is the day I walk out.

It's outrageous.

BUT supply and demand. As stated above there's actually a waiting list for parents to pay obsurd money for little Johnny to be a mascot. The club are going to charge as much as they can if demand dectates it.

We do have great owners but I think some people's judgement is clouded by thinking EVERYTHING the club does has to be charitable. Who is going to pay the wages of the staff if the club gave away everything for cut price.

I've got 2 kids. I'd love them to be mascots. Am I willing to pay hundreds for the privaledge? NO way ..but little Johnny's dad is loaded or stupid so fair enough!!!

I'm sorry, but people can't just keep barking "supply and demand" and shrugging their shoulders. I see that stupid phrase every time something like this, or things like ticket price increases, arises.

I'll see your "supply and demand" and raise you to another phrase: "Corporate social responsibility." Football clubs need to recognise their roles as social hubs for the communities they serve, not just as businesses. We all know how much big clubs, including LCFC, make from TV revenue and so on, so why feel the need to make matchday experiences so exclusive that they're unobtainable to much of their fanbases?

Your living in cloud cuckoo land.

This is football in 2018 under sky sports. You want football 24/7 in nice all seater stadiums watching some of the best players in the world, afraid someone has to pay for all of that crap. And you may not like supply and demand but it exists to stop everyone getting abit of the gravy train. Imagine if mascots were free again...it wouldn't just be little Johnny;..it'd be his Chelsea and manutd supporting mates who just want to have a go cos Johnny is!!!

I get your point. But I think you miss out that some parents WANT that pay this.

Just as some pay for a Mark Warner holiday. Or pay for a nanny. Or private school.

So, the club are fulfilling a social responsibility by offering the package. If it was at the expense of poorer kids, that would be open to criticism. But this deal is in addition to free packages for all.kids of all backgrounds.

I'm not saying someone shouldn't have to pay for all that crap. I stated TV revenue adequately pays for all that crap. Taking families for six ton for something that should really be free (and was for many years), regardless of whether they're able to afford it or not, is not really on for a business that prides itself on having a family and community-oriented ethos. If the club can afford to offer every fan the odd mince pie, beer, Santa hat or "clap stick" for free every once in a while then they're clearly not that hard up that they need to charge for mascots are they?

That's not fulfilling a social responsibility though, is it? It's just acknowledging that a certain section of your customer base has more money than sense.

Just for context - Before my son got his season ticket this year he was a Junior Fox member for several seasons. During that time he had opportunities to go to Christmas parties at Mega Zone and at the club, events at the club and training ground, He got the chance to play on the King Power pitch at the end of this season where the club held a massive event allowing well over 100 kids of all ages that opportunity. When he attended these events he was always given free stuff from filbert fox teddy bears, medals, meeting players, Easter eggs and more. The cost of all those events?? FREE!
When I been to purchase tickets for us in the family stand, the price of his ticket? FREE
Having got his first season ticket this year, if we sat in the family stand his season ticket would have been FREE for the next 4 seasons.

The club do more for the children and the wider community all for free and it's not to be over looked.

I'm not well off or rich but for me the £365 it has cost me for him to have the mascot experience is worth every penny and i would much rather save up and buy that than say an Xbox or Nintendo switch.

I remember when I was a Junior member about 20 years ago. It was a raffle basically with all junior members being in the draw for every match. This is a much better way to do it and more of an incentive to get a membership for your kids.

I was drawn out once, it wasn't a first team match but a reserve match, played at Filbert Street and it was in the days were reserve teams were a mix of first teamers (injury/match fitness etc) and young players. Captain that day was Steve Walsh.

Either way it was a good day out, I think you received 4 match tickets, full home kit and some other stuff along with the usual mascot matchday activity (photo with Captain, playing football with Filbert! etc).

Bring it back!

Four corporate tickets and meals is, say, £100 each.

That's £400.

So another £200 on top to be a mascot isn't scandalous.

Not great but not scandalous.

The lowest priced hospitality tickets are £132, not including any drinks, which the package in question does.

£528 for 4 people. No kit, no tours, no mascot experience. Just the match and food.

We still have two free mascot places don't we. We used to have one mascot back in the day, now we have three I think. So you've got more opportunity than you ever had technically.
