Popular Post Babylon Posted 1 January 2019 Popular Post Share Posted 1 January 2019 (edited) Anyone asking for him out currently is frankly an idiot. People said he couldn't fix the defence, he did, people said he couldn't fix the set piece issue, he has. People said we'd be in relegation worries without Mahrez, we're 7th. People said he wasn't good enough to get us the points, he is. This is Pearson all over again, constantly doubting the manager and then him doing things they said he couldn't do. The argument has now moved form those things to entertainment and attacking. Perhaps we could actually appreciate the things he as done and actually think about giving him the time to sort out those other issues. He's shown previously that in terms of the sort of players we needed he was on the wave length of the fans, by getting an attacking right back (who looks a superstar) and a creative 10 who is showing plenty of promise for a young lad. Give him the chance to fix the other issues, if Silva and Iheanacho had been good buys we and he would not have as many problems, but they've been woeful and it's caused issues we didn't think we had any longer. That's not a problem of his making, he needs to time to sort this squad out as the flops are hanging around our neck and causing a lot of our issues. I get there are issues, it's not perfect, but the results should buy him some respect and some time. He's been here what, 12 months. Guest MattP Posted 1 January 2019 Share Posted 1 January 2019 I classed myself as this after Man City, I was really annoyed but since then his tactics have been absolutely spot on and I've been delighted, we've beaten Everton, Chelsea and Man City and lost to Cardiff which could easily have gone the other way. His switch to three in central midfield was something no one on here suggested and it's been brilliant, even bringing through Hamza who now looks to me a better option than Mendy or Ndidi given the choice. What is really annoying is now those who wanted him out saying "it's the players" when we win but "it's the manager" when we lose - pathetic argument and echoes the morons saying the same about Pearson/Cambiasso. He makes mistakes, which manager doesn't? - but there is nothing better out there at the minute and he's bringing the youth players into a team that wins us matches. I'm happy to give him some time to build this team. He has ideas that I like, Ricardo and Chilwell are looking superb and I genuinely think we are only a couple of players away from a very good team. We are also 7th. I think people need to reflect on that. 7th best team in the country.

Farrington fox Posted 1 January 2019 Share Posted 1 January 2019 I put this in the post match thread, but probs better here. Don’t think I’ve known a manager divide opinions on this forum as much as CP. like him or loathe him, we’re 7th in the EPL. We’ve got limited options up top, that’s obvious. But Rome wasn’t built in a day. We’ve won 2 maybe 3 out of 4 games, I didn’t expect to pick up a point, let alone 9. Ironically Cardiff was the only game I thought we’d pick up points. Be patient, give him a fair crack of the whip. We’re in a decent place.

I’m not a fan of Claude at all, but the performances over the last week or so have been way more enjoyable than that dull, stodgy sideways stuff we’ve seen so much of. Seems like there’s a bit of a higher tempo and more of a plan as well. Happy days

Always hated this. I'm a firm believer in 'win as a team' and 'lose as a team'. It's the fundamentals. Yes there may be praise and criticism at any given occasion but you have to be consistent with it! You can't not give Puel credit for Chelsea/Man City results, especially. They weren't fluky or lucky results. They were 6 points deservedly gained through good tactics and good personnel choices. Likewise, when we couldn't beat Cardiff, the players didn't give enough and we shouldn't have started with 2 defensive midfielders. What I can't understand is those who go directly to find the negatives after results like Chelsea/Man City games and after today. It's as if they cannot enjoy a win, at all, just because it may be partly Puel's doing that's helped get the 3 points. I'm sure, sadly, that some fans would rather we lose just to get Puel out. He's building something. Something promising and with so much potential - if that can't be seen with how we've played recently then there's no hope for those fans at all. I've echoed it several times but we've just got through the busiest part of the season so far by gaining 9 points from 12 and getting up to 7th which, realistically, should be the aim to be the so-called best of the rest. Top 6 would be a bonus but we shouldn't be disappointed by 7th, at all!
Popular Post KingsX Posted 1 January 2019 Popular Post Share Posted 1 January 2019 Honestly, our descent into tribalism here is as tiresome as the worst of our inconsistent football. It's like the incumbency of Claude Puel is becoming more important than the players, management, and direction of the club put together. As a cautious but mostly consistent "in", I am past fed up with the insistent, mindless negativity of a sizable minority of the "outs". But I still hate to see a thread titled "Puel out mob". Lots of us in the middle continue to see both pluses and minuses, and are willing to consider both.
Sir Shep Posted 1 January 2019 Share Posted 1 January 2019 Mob Will please the clique on here at least! By the way I do actually agree with you, I certainly don’t expect us to be doing any better, just perhaps greedily expecting better performances at times.
GloverFox Posted 1 January 2019 Share Posted 1 January 2019 I have to agree, the title with ‘out mob’ both intrigued and worried me ... at the end of the day everyone is entitled to their opinion and football does raise a huge cauldron of passion but hey ... let those folks vent their frustrations here in the forum rather than out in the ground or around the club it’s all down to a love of our club, we all have the same desire ... love this club, want us to win, win, win!
Popular Post Mike Oxlong Posted 1 January 2019 Popular Post Share Posted 1 January 2019 I’ve been for keeping him throughout the season so far. Happy with our position, frustrated by some of our football but willing to give him time to see if he can build something. I can recognise that their are valid arguments in favour of out but the most vociferous outers seem to deploy such illogical and at times abusive arguments that it strengthens my own view that it is right to keep CP till the end of the season and then take stock of where we are.
VLC86 Posted 1 January 2019 Share Posted 1 January 2019 I think we need to understand that he’s always likely to make a decision if needed. Sometimes right (Bringing back Hamza) and sometimes wrong (Subbing Vardy V Cardiff) but if he can somehow get some consistency in the coming weeks as well as managing our squad through Jan (Getting rid of a few and bring ing in creativity) then he could be really on to something. If I’m honest, I’m not fully convinced any of them things will happen but I’ll get behind him and cheers the team on.

Result is fantastic, of course I want to see the team be successful. I'm not expecting Champions League football but it's going to take some ways to convince me he's the right man. This was not a day 1 view I had of him, this opinion built from his entire tenure. Aside from the Man City result which in fairness we bossed (as much as you could with them) we've not been convincing.. sorry if that's not in line with everyone else's opinion but hey it's mine.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 1 January 2019 Share Posted 1 January 2019 I couldn't really give a **** either way anymore, however this isn't the game to rub the "Puel Out Mob"' noes in it, we were shite today let's be honest. We played about as well as we did against Cardiff, only reason we edged it is because unlike Cardiff the Everton players literally couldn't give a ****

Manini Posted 1 January 2019 Share Posted 1 January 2019 I actually don’t mind him and his quiet, considered, play safe style. It isn’t the most exciting but I think we needed stability after the last few years. He’s clearly got his own ideas and he’s winning football matches. I think a lot of people think we’re something we’re not. He’ll get my backing for as long as he’s here and I think we could have done a lot worse than Puel.

Mike Oxlong Posted 1 January 2019 Share Posted 1 January 2019 To be honest I don’t want to rub the “outers” nose in it after the result today. I would much prefer to have an intelligent debate with an advocate for Puel out at the end of which we weigh up the pros and cons and agree that I am right.
Popular Post Footballwipe Posted 1 January 2019 Popular Post Share Posted 1 January 2019 1 minute ago, Rusko187 said: Yes today was a fantastic game Because every game under every previous manager in the Premier League we've played has been pulsating and perfect. When will people set their expectations. Look at the league this season, Wolves beat Chelsea and Spurs but get stuffed at home by Huddersfield. Do you think we're the only inconsistent and frustrating teams in the PL? A couple of weeks ago I wanted him gone, like Matt. I was so tired of the slow, dreary, insipid crap we were being served home game after home game. But look at the Xmas period. We weren't great against Cardiff, but that's football. The other three have been fantastic results. Sometimes I you know, wins are scrappy. Particularly at 12:30pm on the fourth game of our difficult festive fixtures. All I wanted was for my team to show desire, fight and to be able to come away having felt we gave it the best go we could. I've seen we can do that and I'm hoping there's a continual evolving over time to make sure we're like that as many times as possible in a season. But it won't be every game, even when we're at peak in the future, because that's football. He's shown he can get the best out of this, and we are bloody good. There's still work to do as shown by Cardiff and some games leading up to Xmas, but I think he deserves to get the players, ideas and transformation across now. As someone said, we're seventh and let's be honest another chop, change and turnover of personnel will only go one way. Problem is, and you can see it in the stands, people have made their minds up and won't be changed. People seem to root against us to conform to their agenda, they hate the thought of him succeeding. We're people like this when O'Neill was struggling? As soon as something goes wrong or a substitution which isn't approved by the majority is made people lose their rag. It's so tiresome and I'm coming to detest this intolerant section of the fan base. It's been widely said but my god the PL win has so warped some expectations when in reality, would any manager have us any higher? I might be back to being negative about him if we do return to the ways of November/early December, but for now weird intolerants will just continue to find whatever they can to support their opinion. This team, if kept together and correctly added to, will be fantastic. If only we had patience instead of this unrealistic now, now, now approach.
