Popular Post ARM1968 Posted 6 November 2022 Popular Post Share Posted 6 November 2022 Harvey’s numbers suggest he is a top PL winger, one of the very best. He goes under the radar, which is good for. He can be frustrating. However, to replace him you’d need £60 million minimum and even then it would be a gamble. I think the lad is priceless. He’s one of our own and an incredible talent. I say we just enjoy him while he’s here. Great lad.

Koke Posted 6 November 2022 Share Posted 6 November 2022 Very good player. He gets into good positions. Sometimes he's finishing is poor but his overall link play is good.
Guest Col city fan Posted 6 November 2022 Share Posted 6 November 2022 His goal was a beauty yesterday but let’s have it right.. until he scored Barnes was bloody awful yesterday. But that’s him in a nutshell. If he ever gets more consistent in his play, he’ll be snapped up by one of ‘big boys’

Marshall Cockney Fox Posted 6 November 2022 Share Posted 6 November 2022 Harvey when purring is great. Challenges defenders and has a good goal record. But we know Harvey is prone to sulk, not fancy it and become anonymous. For him to really make the step up i.e. become an international. He needs to make sure he's consistently involved in matches. Even when the mojo isn't feeling it.
Always Next Year Posted 6 November 2022 Share Posted 6 November 2022 His only fault for me is that he sometimes try’s to do it all on his own when a simple pass would result in a better chance of a goal from a teammate, but when he scores they are nearly always first class.

Yeah. He scores so many bangers no one even mentions it anymore. We’re crazy lucky.
Phube Posted 6 November 2022 Share Posted 6 November 2022 (edited) Sometimes just wish he could do a first time cross into the box with his left foot, he’s jus a bit too predictable. But then I will always miss Guppy… Edited 6 November 2022 by Phube

I'm convinced he's better shooting on his left. He doesn't have a weak foot, pretty sure his goals and assists off his left foot stretching back from early 2020/21 to now is pretty even. Popular Post Koke Posted 6 November 2022 Popular Post Share Posted 6 November 2022 Sometimes I'm critical of Barnes, then I remember we used to have Demarai Gray, and we were linked with Dwight McNeil. Then I subsequently shut the **** up and thank the Lord for our Harvey. 5 1
FosseSpark Posted 6 November 2022 Share Posted 6 November 2022 In a 26 man squad he should be on the plane to qatar. Lethal pace and gets goals.

Toss up between him and Grealish to join Sterling as the LW option. Maddison and Foden as the ACM and Saka and possibly Bowen at RW. Physically he's got all the attributes to be one of the best players in the league but mentally he's arguably one of the worst. As you said when he gets it right its top class and I think there's more to come especially as he matures on and off the pitch. Hopefully this time next year we'll be looking at a much better player.

His return of goals this season has so far been good but considering his best return is 9 league goals I consider him far from "lethal" or whatever I occasionally read on here. That's on top of his inconsistency in decision making, which has always been my main criticism of his. Rodgers cited Barnes' development as a reason to ditch Gray and Rodgers deserves credit for that. Edited 8 November 2022 by Fox92

We make allowances for other people at the club being inconsistent so why isn't Barnes afforded the same courtesy? Don't necessarily disagree with you on that, just that a couple of players likely picked who aren't as good as him/not reliable enough due to not playing enough or being persistently injured. Rodgers cited Barnes' development as a reason to ditch Gray and Rodgers deserves credit for that. When he got 9 goals and 4 assists in the league that was after two-thirds of the season and he then had to miss the remaining 12 games due to injury. With the goal contribution rate he was on that season in the league there is every reason to think he possibly could've added another 5+ goal contributions in that period if he wasn't injured and would've been close to 20 goal contributions in the league. For however poor his decision making can be, he still picked up 10 assists last season in the league which was only bettered by Salah and Trent If he was more consistent he wouldn't be playing for us and we would be lucky to pick up another winger for the right side who can put up numbers like him Edited 8 November 2022 by moore_94

And the latter takes pens. Every winger in our bracket is inconsistent and frustrating to some extent - it's an odd position, but Barnes is a real asset for us.
hejammy Posted 8 November 2022 Share Posted 8 November 2022 He's actually the most frustrating player we have for me. The guy has bags full of talent - more than any youth product I can remember - however his decision making let's him down big time, Don't get me wrong, he's an amazing and valuable player for us, but just think if he had a bit more up top and his decision making was on point, he could be world class and I don't see that as hyperbole.
