Most of his season done then

Didn't Captain Todd send him to a specialist before he signed to make sure everything is in order? 😂

Hindsight definitely glad we cashed out. Been injured more than he's played for them

Laughing at a young kid who has ruptured his ACL for the second time before the age of 23. What a sad place this can be sometimes….

Hardly laughing at him, rather Boehly.

Also it's not exactly easy to feel sad for someone who'll have made more money by the time his Chelsea contract is up than the users in this entire thread combined.

I would never laugh at someone’s injury…the karma train moves much too fast for that, as young Wes can attest to.

Depending on how the deal was structured, what have we actually made from his sale?

If it was built in add ons, then knowing our incompetence, we might have lost money on the sale, having purchased him outright!

It was documented before he joined us, that he had an usual running gate. This gave cause for concern and let’s be honest, he’s made the right decision for him, if he’s getting a massive wages whilst being injured.

We got £70m guaranteed across 3 separate payments of ~£23m

We got access to the full £70m (minus Saint-Etiennes 20% of profit made) through a loan with Macquarie rather than having to wait for the next instalment

Chelsea paid the 1st instalment to us when they first bought him

The 2nd instalment will have gone from Chelsea straight to Macquarie in Feb, and they also will pay the final instalment to Macquarie in August

So we definitely got the £70m (minus Saint-Etiennes cut), it will be any add ons we are going to miss out on

Any idea what they equated to? Was that around £5,000,000?

Can't imagine there is many add ons at all if we received £70m for him.

His career is possibly done now, signed a 7 year deal on no doubt huge money and will probably never be the same player after one big injury after another and he's priced out of a move until 18 months before his 30th birthday.

I was happy to see him go for the money offered as it was world class money for potential. I've always been an advocate of selling players at their peak value as long as you have an excellent recruitment team. It's the model for clubs like us.

So does this mean £46m of the deal will be paid to Macquarie? If so how much of the loan will be left after?

Fulham make Bassey bid

Fulham have made £15m bid for Ajax defenderCalvin Bassey.

The Cottagers are awaiting a response from the Eredivisie side, where he has four years remaining on his contract.

Ajax signed Bassey from Rangers last July for an initial fee of £19.6m (£22.7m including add-ons).

Rangers would also receive a 10-per-cent sell-on fee should Bassey move – that clause was inserted into the deal with Ajax last summer.
