Wilfred Ndidi

Ship has sailed, this summer was the time to get rid of him and buy Sangare

now we are stuck with a player who is outdated for modern football

2 years before he was one of my favorites and his decline is depressing

He made some eye-catching mistakes today.  Not for the first or last time.

But his physical marking and frequent ball recoveries also stopped several attacks from even becoming attacks.

Take THAT out from in front of THIS defense?  Especially if Little Wes goes?

This late in the window, with us skint, replacing him with a ready-made PL quality two-way DM is just wishful thinking.  (Sangare just re-upped with PSV)

It’s him or Mendy.  Mendy doesn’t give the ball away, but he doesn’t advance it either.  And he’s not half the destroyer Wilf is.

Still can't pass the ball. Would love to see a comparison of times he's won and lost the ball.

Dispossessed 1 time

10 ball recoveries

1 interception

1 tackle

Guest Col city fan

So many people make the argument that players at City have improved under Rodgers. And some have. Barnes and KDH for instance (although they would have probably done so anyway of course).

But Christ! Some have so deteriorated! Where are the Soyuncu and Ndidi that the club first signed?!

Tbf Soyuncu who first enjoyed City was a total car crash who only blossomed once Rodgers started playing him after we sold Maguire.

Got stick for it last season, even though the stats backed me up, but over the past 18 months or so we've been a better side when he hasn't played.

He's just not been the player he used to be for a long long time now, not since January 2021 probably.

he’s finished man. i’ve felt  it for a while he just doesn’t have that raw acceleration to snatch the ball anymore.

Today he was a pointless body, not necessarily because of him but simply because a player like him wasn’t needed. But i’m really not expecting him to be the dominant dm he used to be.

If we have to play 5atb let kdh screen the defence and play praet. There no need for us to have 70% possession and keep someone with wilfs game on the pitch

Interesting, maybe it is just confirmation bias seeing him give away the ball or be involved in breaking down our own attacks.

Felt it was bad yesterday, he'd gain the ball back brilliantly, but likely make the wrong pass and lose it what felt like quite frequently.

Most of his passes are backwards or to safety as you'd expect from a DM, so 88% if pretty low really. It's also not about completion, he usually gets the power and placement of the pass wrong, so it goes does as a "successful pass" when in reality. He's played it too hard, or behind a player that's running forwards, which kills any potential momentum.

He's just not being utilised in the best way possible.

Love Wilf but he has always had that in his game. He just needs to give the ball to a more creative player but they in turn have to show for him. There is bound to be a bit of ring rust for all the team. When he is on song he does it better.

Ndidi made more forward passes (~44) as he did backward passes (~29). He plays to feet too often. Whenever he passes to a wing back it’s always at their current position, rather than in front of them.

He's obviously not a good passer but equally he's not as woeful as some here as suggesting. Plus he is to some degree 'press resistant' as his first touch tends to be good and he can use both feet. I'd rather Wilf than a donkey with poor balance who can ping long passes but you cringe when they have to receive it under pressure.
