No political discussion in this topic. That is complaining about a country, a politician, a party and/or its voters, etc

Their response hasn't been to do nothing has it?

Their plan is open for all to see on the gov.uk website, they've explained the 4 stages of their plan time and time again.

Just because they're not taking drastic action right now, it doesn't mean that they're doing nothing (I hate Johnson, and it pains me to defend him.)

1) stay at home and call 111. Well I do know that people calling 111 have basically been met with null assistance. So governmental advice, there, is to call a service that isn't in a position to offer help.

2) Wash your hands for 20 seconds and use maintain hygiene. This is a real purposeful piece of advice implemented by our fearless leaders.

3) Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze. Great directive because, for years, I've been sneezing directly into the open eyes of people I approach.

4) Clean objects and disinfect things. I've waited my life to hear this assistance.

Like I say, professional snake oil salesman. What of the above DON'T you do? Which parts did you need telling?

Its to your credit you are actually looking at what they are doing rather than the rather poor comms in the face of rising (online at least) panic.  Good to see they are doing daily press conferences now.

Feel the response in the UK has been measured. Is it good for everyone? No, of course not, it never will be. (Before anyone starts, I am one of the vulnerable)

Is it the right approach? (Whatever that is!!) - can only be judged in hindsight.

People moaning that we are not following other EU countries, but they don`t appear to making much headway.

One thing is for sure - watching the way Trump is carrying on, sweet Jesus, makes me happy we have Boris though.

Infact, which of the above is actually a government 'response' and not BoJo just paying lip service?

1) The job of 111 is to Triage those who need hospitalisation.  It is nonsence to say people are not getitng help.

2) It works.  Everyone is saying this, from the WHO to the Italians to the Chinese.

If the additional people washing hands in every toilet i have been in in the past cuople of weeks is anything to go by, lots of people needed telling to wash their hands.

I'll read this more thoroughly, as I suspect it's absolute horseshit, but the phase we're currently in sets its stance with this :

'Many of the actions that people can take themselves – especially washing hands more; and the catch it, bin it, kill it strategy for those with coughs and sneezes – also help in delaying the peak of the infection.'

My criticism still stands. This is just the garbage from those 4 prevention points repacked with some information about other pandemics.

They are clearly sensible steps that are worth reiterating, worth reinforcing. You clearly have it on you / setting yourself up for political point scoring.

Either way. This ain`t the time.

So, I wonder...

... People are supposed to stay at home

... Many business will have to cease operations for several weeks - unless their services are essential

Economies will shrink (massively), businesses will fear administration or at least will struggle paying rent and wages - March, April (even May or June) will probably go down as complete losses. No ROI, no profits for many businesses.

Citizens will have to think about paying their rent in case wages can no longer be guaranteed, even the introduction of part-time work can potentially cripple many.

Governments will be forced to invest heavily, by flooding the market with cheap money in order to guarantee a certain standard of living for all.

The management of the country isn't the time for judging the qualities of government?

For the record, though I doubt you'll take it as truth, I'd have been saying this of a Labour government.

A lassez faire attitude towards the death of the vulnerable isn't my idea of positive leadership, regardless of the government in situ. And whilst these are sensible steps they don't represent any form of credible plan.

If the leadership at this current point was great why are Doctors and specialists in diseases hand wringing about the response, and how come our elected officials are not listening to the experts in the field?

There's two parts to this. One is clearly that it is rife but the other is that their health system (by all accounts very good in the north of the country) is too swamped to deal with all the serious cases, so those who they don't have an ICU bed for will die. We are giving it the opportunity to run rife here by putting no real precautions in place.

I can’t really comment on the Italian (northern) healthcare system. However the quality of it and it’s capability to cope with massively increased pressure are probably linked, and not in a good way. If could’ve been designed to provide high quality healthcare but not necessarily in a efficient manner.

Completely agree but I don't think our extra capacity is too good either!
