Barrow upon Soar. The Navigation Pub, known locally as The Navvy. It was built soon after 1794 when the canal was opened, to provide refreshments for the bargees & horses. This photo was taken in the very early 1900 s.

View of the engine shed and turn-table probably taken from Bird Tree Walk / Hutchinson Walk Walk off of Swain Street Bridge. The Shed's still there but the turn-table is long gone along with the steam engines.

Used to sneak down the slope and into the shed to 'Cab' all the engines in there as a pre-teen.

I have not lived in Leicester for years and years but I have a friend who want to meet up in South Leicestershire around Enderby.

Do anyone have any recommendations for nice walks or restaurants or cool landmarks in the surrounding areas?

A very early image from a glass lantern slide of the junction of Belvoir Street and Bowling Green Street with the former Fenwicks store, then Joseph Johnson's. The date is around 1875-85. Where was the photographer positioned as the view seems to be from the former 'pork pie' chapel opposite? On the roof, perhap?

If you know Leicester, you'll know where this is!   A stunning photograph of Leicester people frozen in time.

Photo's taken on the Newarke Street side, not the now-pedestianised side, but it makes me think how much we've restored the Magazine area to its former glory after someone somewhere decided to plonk Vaughan Way down either side of it decades ago.

The Magazine - Story of Leicester

The opposite view sort of.

Shame they demolished so much of it in the 60s

Were the bits that they demolished to make way for the ring road as old as the surviving building?

No it was the other side where the DeMontfort Uni is to young to remember the exact situation. There was a Bus Station there as well.
