Who knew that education was the key ???

are you also inferring that it’s only stoopid people who occupy the political ground on the right  ? Are all stoopid people conservative republicans or are all conservative republicans stoopid ??

we need to know !

Considering 17% of liberal democrats also seem to disregard the most obvious of scientific research and 34% of conservative republicans did not, I'd say the lack of knowledge (wouldn't quite sat stupidity) is hardly unique to one side.

There are some interesting differences, however.

What is more interesting is how a poll like this compares the US and the other OECD countries: there's precious few other places where organised religious doctrine in defiance of scientific evidence holds so much sway.

See the taliban have done quite well out of the war. 3000 humvees, 1300 rocket launchers, 650000 pieces of ammunition and guns, 30000 sets of night vision goggles. 33 black hawk helicopters, 32 gunshiip helicopters and 3 Hercules c130’s.  Wonder what else was left just lying around….allegedly!

All the helicopters and planes should have been made inoperable

In  theory only stuff like night goggles and ammo/guns should work

but im sure the locals will be very resourceful…..

Probably, they were flying a black hawk down Kabul high street with a white flag under it earlier today. And they’ve also updated all their hi-aces to humvees.

Strike down? With a majority republican scotus not sure that will happen.

Perhaps I'm overly optimistic there, but similar legislation in other states has been struck down in recent times too.

The book-thumping pseudomoralisers just want a precedent case to go to the SC and get through so Roe v Wade can be challenged, that's what this has always been about.

The US Supreme Court has refused to block a new law in Texas that bans abortions for most women.

The so-called Heartbeat Act bans terminations after the detection of what anti-abortion campaigners call a foetal heartbeat - a point when many women do not know they are pregnant.

The law came into effect on Wednesday. Rights groups then asked for an injunction to prevent its enforcement.

In a late night vote, Justices ruled 5-4 against granting the injunction.

Basically every single religious group has a problem in this country because they are not bound by the (appropriate) levels of vetting you would expect of organisations who are entrusted to look after children. Its very sad that people who entrust adults to educate their kids on their choice of beliefs are left with people they have very little knowledge about.

There should be appropriate checks for ANY organisation where children are involved.

Shame that the Chinese are failing to see the bigger picture in favour of petty nationalism too.

I know you've expressed doubts about this, Mac, - at least at a political level - but personally I'd like to see Climate groups pushing for a consumer-led boycott of Chinese goods.

Yep. Good job I didn't put money on it with @Jattdogg

Sometimes I think the main reason the evangelical Christians in the US dislike the fundie Islamists so much is because they look in a mirror and see each other and they don't like it.

It's one of those ideas that I'm all for in principle, but practically I just can't see it working. China is just too big a player to isolate on this fashion these days, and doing so could well just make them become more paranoid and outwardly militaristic just at the time the major powers need to be cooperating on several major issues.

That being said, I honestly don't know what a good solution to get them into a more cooperative frame of mind on such matters while at the same time pushing them to stop brutally repressing their population.

Brevity has it's place, Carl, but this leaves so many questions unanswered:

Are you suggesting that you don't know what you're doing before then? And in what sense? Do you mean that currently you have no insight into your immediate future, or in the more colloquial sense as one might sing to the referee at the KP?

Sorry highpeak. I mean I'm going to send some nasty ogre porn to a bunch of right-wing authoritarians who despise female autonomy.

But to dig a little deeper do any of us really know what we're doing? Do we really even exist? Are we merely shadows cast on the back of a cave? Electronic impulses fed to a brain in a jar? A singular consciousness torn into billions of pieces? Who can really say?
