Will Smith was a guy i liked overall.

Did nothing 100% great but seemed like a good guy. Last few years have been interesting with his public life.

Some deep issues in that relationship and i am not so sure it even is healthy to be in but thats his business.

If this was legit, Will is a punk.

We all know Chris Rock says some real edgy shiet so you roll with it. Sure, some is uncalled for but that's comedy. You can be a man and have a word with him off stage and if need be put your dukes up then.

I am guessing will laughed all the other times rock said real crap about others over the years.

Ah well celebrity problems!

Ahhhh..ok then.

When I first watched it I thought it was a joke as I couldn't get my head around why he found it that offensive (even though he laughed before he kicked off).

It does add some context to it but surely not to the point he had to physically hit the guy. Must be some deeper things going on behind the scenes there.

I think had they'd not been so public about their issues and basically record them having marriage counselling I don't think it would've happened tbh.

Is there some context to the joke that I'm missing?

Why did she take such offence to it? Enough that made him want to get up on stage and hit someone in such a high-profile situation?

Jada Smith currently has a buzz cut hairstyle, similar to Demi Moore in a film called GI Jane.

Jada Smith has alopecia, so her hair cut isn't a fashion statement.

So when Chris Rock said "looking forward to GI Jane 2" he's taking the piss out of her haircut.

Wasn't the point clear? Apologies.

Have you seen the word used much outside of internet areas populated by basement-dwelling keyboard warriors clearly insecure around women, then? I haven't, hence the post and my surprise at it being used here - it's taken on a rather specific function in the last few years.

Is this an admission of you spending your time on internet areas populated by basement-dwelling keyboard warriors that are clearly insecure around women or, like everyone else, have you just seen the word used in social media and are trying to take some bizarre moral high ground?

Am all for dark humour etc but if such a joke is aimed at you/your family/friends in front of a world audience, I think you're allowed to be offended and struggle to see the funny side. Assault the guy though.. again if he felt his wife has just been ridiculed infront of said world audience then I guess I don't blame him for wanting to perhaps embarrase him in return.

You probably wouldn't laugh first though?

Biggest question is why is Will Smith getting a best actor Oscar? He’s not a great actor, not saying he’s bad but he’s just ok. Feels like he got as just an award for being a big star who’d been around for a long time.

Feels a bit like when Scorsese and Di Caprio got given one for their weaker films just because people wouldn’t shut up about them never having won one. Or when Ryan Giggs got the PFA POTY as a lame lifetime achievement award in a season he played about 11 full games and wasn’t in the top 50 best players in the PL that season.

Have you seen King Richard? Maybe his performance in it was really good?

Quite honestly it never ceases to amaze me that so many people give two fvcks about the Oscars or anything associated with them.

I don’t think people do, ratings have been falling for years and the only thing that got people talking about them was the indignation they had about Gervais pointing out a good portion of them were abuse-enablers last year and a bloke slapping the taste out of the mouth of the host for calling his wife a slap-head this year. Probably for the best this dies as Hollywood culture has made me embarrassed to share similar politics to them and keep alive the ‘liberal elite’ narrative.

Yup, quite agree. These pages would be well at home in the Daily Mail comments section. The cult of personality and worship of celebrity has been raised to an art form in the 21st century.

I've seen very few of his films and I know nothing about King Richard, but I thought that he was exceptional in 'The Pursuit of Happyness'

Not to be confused with the porn parody 'the pursuit of a penis'

The joke was clearly too close to the bone, and obviously giving someone a slap ain’t on either. Both can be wrong.

What’s peculiar is that they had heard the gag before in the rehearsal the day before and nothing was said.

I work with people who have first hand experience with Will Smith and by all accounts he’s always very pleasant and well behaved, which is more than can be said for many A-list Hollywood types. This is seemingly very out of character.

There’s definitely history between the two of them, and this was just the proverbial straw. Proper breakdown stuff on the part of Smith.

The whole thing is bizarre and pretty excruciating.

Still, not as good as Travolta calling Idina Menzel “Adele Dazeem” IMO.

Will Smith may have initially laughed (who knows why? Thicker skinned!?) but Jada is instantly clearly not impressed. It wasn't a good joke under the circumstances, and I can see why offense was taken. For me, it was poor taste at least and bordering on worse, regardless of their relationship issues and the public nature thereof or otherwise (I've no idea about that)

So 'edgy' comedian hides behind "it's a joke" shocker. I know it's par for the course for Oscar presenters to take the piss out of celebs, to make these edgey gags without expecting comeback, but that don't mean they're fair game for any remark.
