Dozens arrested at Sweden riots sparked by planned Quran burnings https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-61134734

so what’s the point of all this then? Why would you want to do something like this and then do it publicly? I don’t understand people whos  sole aim is to purposefully upset and enrage  a group of people especially when the act itself has no personal gain for yourself- when you are doing something just for the sake of it..

Also reminds me of when covid first hit America. We Brit’s queued for bog roll, Americans queued for guns 🤷🏻‍♂️

Such a crazy mindset!

Both seem a bit crazy to me.

TBH there were probably more guns than bog roll but sometimes, you just need to be ahead of demand and be prepared to shoot anyone who tries to steal your bog rolls.

Au contraire, this does have a motive IMO.

Paludan wants a white ethnostate. He knows that the best way for that to come about is through race conflict. So he works on inciting such unrest by doing an act that is specifically designed to enrage and incite violence.

I think you are giving him too much credit.  Sweden is more multicultural today than it ever has been. And that probably irks him. He’s not stupid enough to think Sweden will ever become a white state again. I Think he’s just throwing his toys out of the pram.

This is a tricky one, but fundamentally if a man buys a book I believe he can dispose of it as he wishes.  If others choose to find that offensive that is their right also, but neither has the right to break the law as a result of their choice or to defend it.

While this could be true, a look at history tells me that you underestimate such aggressive nationalists and what they can do at your peril.

...is there a reason all of the assets of this man haven't been seized yet and he is left in the most deserved and impoverished ignominy imaginable?

It still baffles me that the US hasn’t even moved to tackle gun control.

It's an absolutely massive multi tsydhfgdtdillion dollar industry. The financial power behind the lobbies that advocate so passionately for gun ownership are some of the most powerful in the world.

It's also why the Americans are never likely to stop sending absurdly high numbers of their population to prison, where an incredible amount of ammunition and combat gear is produced by the "industry" that replaced the slave trade.

Or why they'll never really stop finding justification to need to "intervene" in developing world disputes and drop trillions of dollars of ordinance in the process or provide military "aid" to regimes around the world by selling all manner of death dealing hardware.

It's just all about the money its making. Enough money to be able to reinvest an absolutely incredible amount on PR to make sure you run the message through every outlet going that the second amendment is as American as apple pie and should be ingrained in to the consciousness of the voter base.

Edit: just as an aside, it's significant that the one piece of gun control legislation they let Biden bring in without too much interference is about stopping people make DIY firearms. "Ghost" guns are a threat to the industry, the dawn of 3D printing and home manufacture is something that lots of industries in the world are going to have to come to terms with.

It's a bit like the birth of Napster vs. the music industry in a way. Clearly "Big Gun" doesn't want Billy Bob making his own Glock from a blueprint he downloaded off the Internet, even if they do kick up a bit of fuss publicly in order to pretend the Dems are "taking your guns!"

I read a really interesting thing that Eisenhower actually looked at bringing in basic healthcare in the US in 1951, shortly after we made the NHS but there wasn't the appetite or support (money) and it never got off the ground.

Then, the cold war kicked in and anything that was even vaguely "socialist" was looked upon as the devil.

Why on earth would anyone want to own a driver-less car?

Right now? No idea.

In the future when they are closer to perfected? Plenty of reasons. Can make better use of the time spent commuting, people who can't currently drive for medical or other reasons could have the freedom of individual transport...overall, self driving cars could massively reduce road collision injuries/deaths. That's just off the top of my head.

They will do all of those things, but given electric cars could well be capable of hundreds of thousands of miles without much maintenance, we will see much more of a shift to shared vehicles.  Why pay a fortune for a car you don't drive to sit unused for 90% of the time?
