 is the advice that daily lft testing as a close contact means you don’t have to isolate BUT if you’re a close contact of an omicron sufferer then you do ????

Probably because in some facets of science there are companies associated making huge amounts of money with terrible ethical track records.

Perhaps, but that's not science, that's business ethics - or lack of it - within the sector. Currently the prohibitive monopolies and pricing placed on vaccinations by Big Pharma are an example, but that has nothing to do with science itself.

Yea, I thought you’d pick me up on semantics. But pragmatically what people refer to as science will be studies which are often financed by organisations that aren’t always non biased or have conflicting interests. Obviously the scientific method is not affected by that.

Anyway, comparing our situation to Canada is not fair. I also have a friend in Vancouver, who is from the UK. They do not have the hospital capacity or infrastructure we do. We have adminstered booster jabs to over 30% of our population, they have not even got to 10%. Why should we sink to their standards when we are in a much better position? We should enjoy our hard work and the freedoms that come with it, not lower standards and be happy with it.

I was only saying what my mates are dealing with. Some might be interested as to what is going on elsewhere. Not sure why you got so sensitive about it. I am personally against Covid passports.

The peer review process which has been explained innumerable times on this thread.

 

I suggest you refer back to my post earlier today. 

 

Scientific findings must be evidence based, reproducible and backed by independently verifiable data. if an organisation funds a research project that will benefit them financially, then we cannot accept the findings as "evidence" unless different researchers (from unrelated organisations) come to the same conclusions through their own independent research. Scientific evidence relies on data, and it is crucial for researchers to ensure that the data they collect is representative of the "true" situation. This means using proved or appropriate ways of collecting and analysing the data and ensuring the research is conducted ethically. The researcher needs to present their data, results and conclusions in the form of a scientific report or paper. This must be reviewed by their scientific peers – only they are qualified to assess the validity of the methods and the accuracy of the conclusions the researcher has drawn from the results. Though not completely infallible, the lure of a novel discovery and renown as an independent researcher is a far greater prize than being in the thrall of corporate interest. All research is seated within the literature - and the objective is to advance and progress knowledge in that domain. It therefore needs to be validated to then be accepted and approbated within that corpus of knowledge. 

 

This process takes a long time – from submission of the manuscript to a journal, to the final publication date can take six months to a year, often longer. Moreover, applied research means real world impact demonstrating beneficiaries and with defined objectives. The integrity of research is measured by significance, originality and rigour. 

 

If someone tells you that they have "scientific evidence" to back up their case, ask a few questions. Who funded the research and why? How much evidence is there and how was it gathered? Was the sample size or location representative of the "real" situation? Is it a 4* or 3* paper? Has the research been published in an internationally-accepted, peer-reviewed journal, or is it only available online on a personal or organisation's website or low quality pay to publish journal? Do a majority of other scientists agree on these results? If a few disagree, are they qualified to evaluate the issue - or is it simply as we often see on here, is it merely confirmation bias through appeal to authority? And if someone claims there is a lack of evidence on a contested issue, ask them to clarify. Do they mean that peer-reviewed research has been carried out, and found no proof of an effect/causality? Or, do they mean that there is a lacuna in the literature? - no one has yet conducted research to examine the issue? These do not mean the same thing. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

 

Finally, known science is demonstrable and being governed by mathematical axioms and ineluctable physical laws, has a voice of its own.

Haha I’m not sensitive about it, I just disagree with you telling us moaners that we’ve not got it so bad. The cost of living in this country is frighteningly eye watering, I think In return we should demand the absolute best, not compare ourselves to filthy backwaters like Canada. I disagree with covid passports too, but I think they’re sadly inevitable all over

We have our works Christmas party tonight which is going ahead. There are quite a few companies all part of the group so there will be a lot of people mixing etc. We have to show proof of a negative test at the door to get in. However this is just so pointless, you can literally just chose to say it is negative on the gov site, or you can even just not take the test but scan it. It is such a stupid system.

Your point was to discredit allegations made against the establishment because the guys name is O'looney whereas, i suspect that bbc breakfast probably couldn't resist sending out a reporter whose name is phil mccann to report on drivers filling up cans of petrol... how may times in your life would you get the oppotunity to do  that, iknow i would if i was the shows director.

I watched and gave that video more time than it deserved if I’m honest. A chap called Mr. O’Looney claiming covid doesn’t exist, based on his anecdotal evidence. Based on mine, covid does exist and I stand by original post that implies a Mr. O’Looney on YouTube claiming the pandemic isn’t real, is ****ing funny.
