So professor Medley government chief modeller now concedes the omicron wave is not as bad as first thought. Well well, no surprise there then. Of course some of us who are able to apply a bit of common sense, knew that would be the case.

The Illuminati up vote, you must be so proud. lol

Evidence suggests that low serum Vitamin-D level carries a higher risk of COVID-19 infection. The limited currently available data from studies indicate that sufficient Vitamin D level in serum is associated with a significantly decreased risk of COVID-19 infection.

It may have potential role in eliminating the virus in the throat.

Vitamin D...if One Drinks & Consumes Orange, which I do, does that mean I have been unknowingly protecting myself !!

Really? How did you know? At that point no one did.

Common sense? Odd that your sagacity, judgement and self-proclaimed 'common sense' deserted you when you voted Boris Johnson into power.

As much as he has let us down with his lies and double standards. I certainly don’t condone that. For me, his government would still be preferable to a labour one. Personally I hope he’ll be replaced before we vote again.

Assuming the current parliament does complete the term I dread another 5 years plus of the Tories in charge.

“not as bad as worst case projections”

And as I’ll repeat for the the 1000th time, they make numerous projections, of which the most positive is close to being correct.

The United States reported 1.34 million Covid cases on Monday, according to an NBC News tally, with the daily case rate shattering global records as hospitalizations soared across the country.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/us-reports-record-13m-covid-cases-day-hospitalizations-soar-rcna11736

i said this would happen a couple of weeks ago and got laughed at.

omicron might not be as severe on a case by case comparison but the sheer number of cases will result in the same, if not higher levels of hospitalizations as at the highest point during during the delta explosion.

This was discussed last week. And what logic? The guidelines surrounding approved well fitted facemasks are clear. Unfortunately it's enough of a challenge to enforce or mandate even the most rudimentary/makeshift face coverings.

Indeed it was, hence the reference. The logic being that there isn’t any strong proof cloth masks work but they may so it’s still worth it. You could say the same for vitamin D.

1.34 million. That is a scary number.

I’m almost convinced I’ll get it in the week or so. I’m also growing weary of trying to avoid it. Avoiding crowded places, not been to lcfc since march 2020, not going out as much as I did, not seeing family as much due to worries I’ll pass it on without knowing to the more vulnerable, changing shopping habits, worried every cold/cough/sneeze could be covid, lateral flows 2/3 times a week, wearing a mask more of the day than not, have i sanitised my hands after every visit to places and before. I know it is all needed, but mentally I really feel drained.

All that might sound selfish, and I’m truly not a selfish person, but it is how I feel about the whole thing. I will continue to do the things that I need to to protect others and myself and to help bring figures like this down as much as possible.

If you don't call the preponderance of evidence that vitamin D is very effective against respiratory Infections, and reasonably strong evidence that it's effective against covid, then I don't know what else to say.

Well I’m not a socialist for starters. At the time it was choice between Johnson and Corbyn!

I guess it depends on your constituency and how tight it is

I spoiled my paper by noting next to each candidate how untrustworthy their party was ……..

hopefully I never have to do that again ……

I have a part of our family that have been "covid-sceptics" throughout all of this, have carried on life as normal, never really adhered to the restrictions, refused the vaccines etc.   I found out yesterday they have all caught Covid.  One of them is now in a coma in hospital, having refused medication even when their illness got really bad.

even the ones with Covid who have been less affected, have still gone to work, gone to the gym, gone to the shops.

I can't fathom the selfishness of their actions. They even invited my 74 year old Father in Law round for Christmas Day, (who is immuno-suppressed) and failed to tell him they had Covid.

if they are the general actions of people who are Covid Sceptics, then it's no wonder that it's spread like wildfire.

You don't sound selfish in the slightest - if anything quite the opposite. I couldn't help be struck by how much personal responsibility you are putting on yourself - you have been doing what you can to avoid the risk and that's all you can do. Get yourself down to a match - if you get there early to avoid the mad rush in the concourse and sit at the end of a row so you aren't surrounded by as many people, I promise it won't seem as daunting as you are no doubt imagining it will do.
