Coronavirus Thread

It looks like vaccinating children < 16 will not take place unless they have underlying conditions. Long COVID in children is not something I had thought about

I have also seen (Telegraph) that COVID passports might be on the way back for sporting events over 20,000. This might help but being fully vaccinated does not ensure immunity and lateral flow tests miss mild cases. As many have said freedom day should be caution day.

Bojo and Sunak aren’t isolating after coming into contact with Javid due to participating in ‘a pilot’ that has literally been made up on the spot 😂😂😂😂

Yet the rest of us are expected to lose all income if it happens to us. Wow

Don't delete the app though, that makes you stupid and selfish! We're all in this together, one last push!

Ferguson now claiming we could see above 200k cases per day.  He's upped the ante this morning.

Current state of play:

If cases do not continue to rise at the current rate beyond Monday, do people start to question lockdown strategy?  Ferguson claims this is "the sole reason" for the decrease in the first and second waves.  There's plenty out there who disagree.

Given that the lockdowns were harder and there was a lot less virus knowledge around the populace, then Yes, absolutely lockdowns were necessary, even if there isn’t a noticeable increase from Monday. I pondered a few pages ago whether people would change their habits on Monday; if they don’t then that obviously won’t affect the graphs, whereas previous lockdown announcements have changed behaviour significantly and demonstrably.

ie. If you’re hoping that a minimally-changed graph from Monday will prove that lockdowns should never have happened, it won’t.

The numbers you’re quoting are based on worse-case, no, or minimal intervention.

Criticising that these numbers were never hit is not actually a slight on Ferguson’s methods - it’s actually highlighting his success.

Oh yes I remember the SARS lockdown like it was yesterday.
