Popular Post Leicester_Loyal Posted 4 September 2020 Popular Post Share Posted 4 September 2020 I think Chelsea will finish 3rd, they still won't win the league. What this transfer window has shown me though (even though we all knew it anyway), is that we'll never be able to financially compete with these clubs, no matter how many times we finish in the top 4. 16
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 4 September 2020 Share Posted 4 September 2020 Seriously want the beans is that Manchester United kit? None of it makes sense. How the heck did something so car crashingly ugly get signed off?
Gevans_97 Posted 4 September 2020 Share Posted 4 September 2020 For all the money thrown around, I still don't think Chelsea will compete with the top two. Man City and Liverpool are still better player for player - I'd much rather have Mane/Firmino/Salah or Sterling/Aguero/Mahrez than Pulisic/Werner/Ziyech, and the front 3 is supposedly the strongest part of Chelsea's team now. No guarantee they will hit the ground running after so many signings too. Will Thiago Silva really make that much of an impression to improve them defensively? In my opinion the reason they ship more goals is more about the way Lampard sets his teams up than the actual personnel in defence. Most importantly, Klopp and Pep are much better managers. Lampard will be very successful in his career i'm sure but he's no where near their standard. And over a 38 game season managers make a considerable difference. They will be exciting to watch this season and will probably score a lot, but they won't challenge for the title.
StanSP Posted 4 September 2020 Share Posted 4 September 2020 Wonder how long Lampard will get? Out of top 6 by Xmas and he's gone? Not in contention for a title and he's gone? The amount they've paid out this summer alone means they mean business but I can't imagine Roman will hang around if it's not all going to plan. If anything there's more pressure on Lampard this season.
copunk Posted 4 September 2020 Share Posted 4 September 2020 Totally agree with the notion of teams outside of the "top 4" not able to compete financially The money Chelsea have thrown around shows how far the likes of ourselves are off from being able to fight toe to toe consistently Really feel its going to be a very tough league this season, a top 10 finish, decent europa league campaign and maybe a nice FA cup run would, in my opinion, be a very successful season

I think we'll be a lot better off if we can get 2 or 3 more signings in before the window shuts, as we will need some depth in the squad this season. Could be gruelling. Popular Post Finnegan Posted 4 September 2020 Popular Post Share Posted 4 September 2020 Are Chelsea going to have an entirely new 11? I absolutely love that this time last year it was OMG CHELSEA SO AMAZING PLAYING YOUNG ENGLISH PLAYERS FAP FAP FAP And as soon as they can sign players again Abramovic sticks his fingers up and spends about a billion zillion pounds replacing them all. 8

I agree with city and Chelsea and maybe also Utd and Liverpool for their history, but spurs and arsenal? We can compete! Even though Spurs are a ‘top 6’ club, in reality there not a huge club, have won less than us since the 80s and will always be a smaller club of the London giants. They had their peak little phase and now I can see them not really ever getting top 4 again for a good period. Aging squad and aging manager. Arsenal, whilst a Huge club, don’t seem to be able to attract good talent anymore. There on a similar level that is comparable for clubs like us to get to. Top is slowly building a legacy here. You can’t become a big club overnight! We have had a fairly average history of a yo-yo club and not winning big trophies, al be it very close often in FA Cups. So historically we arnt seen as a big club. Footballs changed though, not everyone wins major trophies like before the 80s when every team had a little phase of trophies, the likes of Burnley, Wolves, Forest etc all had eras we sadly didn’t have. That is why currently we are not seen as big, not just compared to top 6 teams but most teams! I mean we often are portrayed as ‘little Leicester’ or ‘it’s only Leicester’ as Newcastle often are seen as huge, Everton always are seen as underachieving for ‘such a big club’, villa are another , as are Leeds..my god the media are all over them!! So whilst I agree currently we arnt even near the 2nd level clubs, let alone the top 6, we are slowly building a legacy and an ‘era’. New training facilities, a bigger stadium, league cups and a Prem title and the greatest football story ever told, CL campaign, EL campaign coming up, Our greatest ever player, a golden boot, some of the great prem players have played for us and the list goes on! We can continue to build slowly as top stated and maybe compete consistency for decades in that little mix of teams and in the next 20/30 years, the young kids and older generation(us!) will be seen as the ‘Big club with history’. Top has transformed our club, given us history to cherish for ever and keeping up steadily in an upwards trajectory for over a decade now! With our owners and our community, fan base et all, the only way is up! The futures bright! We can compete and are no longer a small club, we belong firmly in the top 20 biggest English clubs now! 1

I really don't like Spurs, but by any measure they're a big club. I often think people don't get how widespread and immense their support is. Not just N London, but massive swathes of the home counties and well beyond. Even with a bigger stadium I don't see us breaking more than 40,000 at home regularly. Spurs could comfortably get twice that. As I say I don't like them, but let's be realistic - as David Pleat used to say, it's all about chimney-pots. Leicester is a mid-sized city, and we are a mid-sized club. Who happen to be going through a period of punching well above our weight. And, by the way, Leicester's relative size doesn’t make it any the less a remarkable place, and the same goes for the football club.

shailen Posted 5 September 2020 Share Posted 5 September 2020 Spurs are historically a big club, but performance wise they were really a mid table team until they sold Bale, Modric etc. and invested that money well in Eriksen, Lamela, Lloris, Alli, etc.., and at the same time the emergence in their academy of prospects such as Kane, Walker, Dier, etc. We aren't far away imo, as we've sold Mahrez, Maguire, Chilwell for big money and we've probably improved our squad from each sale. I think we need to build a team that is consistent enough to finish top 6/7 over the next few years to be classed in the same bracket as Spurs, but it's not out of reach by any stretch of the imagination.
