Bottlers don't win FA cup finals.

Agreed and to add on we won 3 games in the fa cup this year in that time frame. We also had  a harder schedule adding man city and west ham in it.

FA Cup was by Wigan, Wigan could never been a top 4 club.  Different kind of competition, with different mind set.

Did Wigan win the league and finish top 5 two years in a row as well? Not really a great comparison. But I would imagine their fans are proud of their fa cup victory.

Were Wigan bottlers?

That's my point, if you read what I said league and cups are different competitions,.Wigan were never going to be top 4 but could win the FA Cup.

As in being proud, absolutely, but we are not Wigan, we have been in the top 4 all season until yesterday.

Yes, they got relegated

Did they get relegated because they lacked bottle, or just weren't quite good enough given the schedule? If you can win an FA cup final, you have proven your 'bottle' credentials.....

Might that not have been because they were crap?

There is nothing wrong with being happy and proud that we won the FA Cup, but utterly pissed off that we appear to have stuffed up CL again. The two positions can exist at the same time without being quantum wizardry.

Yep.

Also someone can be so pissed off at the league position it spoils the cup win for them, or so delighted by the cup win that they don’t give a stuff about the league position. It takes all sorts. Why can’t we just live and let live? We all support the same effing club.

You also can’t be shit and finish top 6. You can

t be shit and obtain 60 plus points and you can’t be shit and compete in two separate competitions to a respectable level.

The thing about this season and last is we’ve had horrible end of season runs. It’s crazy we could get to 69 points and not get top 4 when that’s around about the average in the past.

Switch the fixtures round and put Liverpool’s 1-0 home defeat against Burnley or the 7-2 v Villa and the end and they look shit.

This is a tough league and for every good performance/result we’ve had against the bigger teams, you can counteract that with a bad defeat against a team near the bottom. Consistency is a bitch when you’re involved in 3/4 tournaments.

Who is taking about top 6, let's talk top 4, the place where we have been all season until yesterday.  And who said being top 6 can be a shit club, but a club that has capitulated from being top 4 for majority of the season at the business end of the season for 2 seasons on the row, says something.

Let's talk about our performances for the last few weeks other then WBA, we have been well below average, well after our EL demise.  We blew it, we played shit and capitulated, that is a fact.  The amount of individual errors and poor performances in this calender year compared to the first half of the season is paramount.  This isn't an overnight thing, this has been talked about for the last 3 months, it could have been predicted and many predicted it on this forum with justification.  For many the situation we are in isn't a shock.

We all love the club and love winning the FA Cup, I find it hard also how we can capitulate in the manner we have.

The only league position that matters is the final one, with a final three games of Utd, Chelsea, Spurs we were always artificially high in that we'd had a spread of relatively easier games than most until then. However it's not been as simple as that, a point against Newcastle and we'd be in a different mood right now but then we went to Man Utd and won. But that final run of games meant we really needed a bigger buffer than we had. Nothing has gone for us other than Utd fielding a weakened side. Had their original game v Liverpool gone ahead with the momentum of the time they would probably have won and Liverpool wouldn't have had the run they're having. Had Perez not thought "big game coming up, how about a party" we'd have done better at West Ham. Losing Evans during a warm up, having no Barnes for the run in, Mike Dean getting a whistle for his 10th birthday, the wrong decision to send off the Southampton player resulting in a dour stalemate, play til you score timings for big 6 clubs, Man City fielding a testimonial team vs Chelsea, Aguero's Joke penalty, maybe more things to come.

I find the Newcastle game hard to explain, even with the late change, you can lose someone in the first ten minutes without collapsing like that but other than that they've done us proud with what they've got and remember with the injuries there has been very little chance for rotation for the current line up unlike other clubs. I'm proud of them.

Over 38 games the table never lies. You've had a tough final few games, which means you had easier ones leading up to that and should have got it done and dusted by making sure you beat the weaker teams.

Timing matters though, and I guess it's easier to beat the bigger teams with less riding on it in the middle of the season rather than under pressure at the end.

It might be.

Or then again it might not be.

I don’t know.

You don’t know.

It’s certainly disappointing and annoying though.

It’s not over yet. The thing is, what is happening to us i.e. just missing out when we’re relatively new to this top 4 challenging thing is not new.

Man C went through something similar when they started their process.

Sours went through something similar when they started their process.

Our squad, though talented is not made up of seasoned winners. That doesn’t make them shit. It makes them normal. Players who are not quite there yet in terms of elite football and if you add in a few who will never be good enough for that level, it gives you an indication of where we are.

Progress is progress. Have we improved in certain aspects of our game - yes. Have we improved in getting results where we failed to last year ? Have we improved on combining multiple competitions? Yes.

I just think becoming a top 4 club is not something that comes within 2/3 seasons even if we have got a bit of head start. The injuries, fatigue, games all add up and the stronger squads come through.

Pah! Get out of here with your common sense and sensible reasonableness.

The stupid thing is 4th is a great season and 5th is a disappointing one. This is what makes the season bad for some people.

We won and fa cup and have a chance at champions league, if we fail we get Europa league. Literally any Leicester fan would have signed up for that to start the year. It’s not perfect but it’s a very good year. The club is making progress there will be bumps along the way.

Hmm I dont see it this way. Southampton was bottling it.... Newcastle out played us on the day. We made some bad errors, but other than Soyuncu's  it was more a reflection of failing to adjust to losing evans than anything else.
