Maddison

Recommended Posts

There was a lot of talk last summer about Tielemans entering the final two years of his contract and refusing to sign. We're now getting into the same situation with Maddison but there's not a peep anywhere about discussions being opened. We certainly can't afford to let him run his contract down too so I sincerely hope we're being proactive.

Maybe that's why the club said they'd listen to offer a few weeks ago? I don't want to lose him but I don't want to give him away in 12 months either.

Agreed. If players to players / assets don't want to sign new contracts when down to last 2 years we should sell them and replace for maximum value.

It's the only way a club like ours can survive and progress.

With the strength of other clubs now thinking that we're able to compete with the top 4 seems like a pipe dream.

I think madders is going to get a new contract very soon. I also think BR wants to mould the team around him/KDH and the new signings.

Madders had a patchy couple of seasons before this one both on and off the field, but he looks very accomplished now. BR singing his praises was different to how he has done so to others recently, he went out of his way to name drop him and then discuss him.

Patchy?   He was quality.  Particularly last season.

When he wasn't carrying an injury.

Were you one of the people wanting him sold to Arsenal?

No lol but I wasn't impressed! It was off the field when he was caught doing casino stuff (even though I support him in that one) and generally not settled.

Let's put it down to a midlife crisis 🤪.

So of we wanted to build a team around him (and select others) and with his contract length left and salary boost from last one, then how much is he worth per week for a new one to keep him ££££???

I believe it would serve well to keep him around longer. While the level of attacking midfield players are high supply in the market, the improvement in this current philosophy is there with him going missing much less in games as compared to some of the previous seasons. Despite this it has always been clear of his importance when on form with his ability to see those hard to find passes through the lines, bridging that gap to the striker, and that intelligent movement in that final third which we often struggle with whenever he's out or playing out wide.

Indespensable especially with Tielemens inevitable departure.

For me he's actually developed a lot this year. For one his work rate and defensive side has improved dramatically. IMO he's one of the most important players to keep alongside maybe KDH and Fofana. Build our team with the spine of Fofana, KDH and Madders and we'll have a good chance next season.

Yeah he's improved his pressing game in his advanced number 10 attacking midfield position. Having a consistent run in the team has definitely helped his form.

Can’t see him going anywhere else, think he likes being the centre of attention and he gets that at Leicester.

The problem with have is that he still wants to play for England and his advisors might be suggesting a move to help with that.  With Southgate in charge he would have more chance playing for Palace ffs.

I think it's down purely to the fact that we England don't play a number 10 tbh, it's not like Southgate has turned up his noses at our players, even gave Thomas a call up way too early

When did Thomas get called up? Must have missed that.

I believe he was in the U21's, and i don't think that was too early for him at all.

Personally, if Madders had the season he has had wearing an Arsenal shirt, then he makes the England squad.  Squad, not first 11.
