Southgate seems to think he's on a morale crusade all of the time - Give me Terry Venables any day of the week over this twonk

Hell yeah, thinking back, this feels like the last time I managed to actually give a shit about england and their results.

Still gutted for Maddison on missing out on the England squad. I hope he comes back even stronger after the summer and picks up where he left off. If he does that, he has a chance of making the squad for one of the two early international breaks next season, and then subsequently the World Cup squad. He's a superb player when he's in this kind of form he's the first name on the team sheet for me.

The guys our superstar! Let’s hope he can keep away from injuries! We really need to get a chant going for him.

Also this! It's mad how we can't get a chant off the ground for one of our star players. At this stage even something as simple and mainstream as chanting 'James Maddison' to 'Everywhere we go' or something like that is better than nothing.

I personally liked the effort to 'Chase the Sun' (the darts theme - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp-3HWjBMBA) with MAD-DI-SON replacing the OI-OI-OI. It's different and would take off in a football crowd, plus Madders would love it. Bring on the darts celebration every week.

Yea and I think Maddison would love this if we got it going full pelt!

With foden missing both today and Tuesdays games and sterling also a doubt today, hopefully england fail to win either game and southgates’s nonsensical approach is laid bare for all to see ………

I am a negative Nelly in England terms and not watched for a while but I dont see why you are blaming Southgate, he retired long ago. I reckon Hoddle just dont like the casino thing and thinks that Madders is a reincarnation of Mick channon or something like that.

Again.. I’m happy Maddison hasn’t been picked.
He’d be hamstrung by Southgate’s negative tactics, so would just become frustrated.

He’s better off resting himself on a beach somewhere to come back to City fresh and raring to go.

I would imagine for the bulk of the England squad, this tournament is the last bloody thing they’d want to be doing at the moment. I think it’s barmy personally. Top sportsmen need time to recover properly.

All the talk about Bowen's display and attitude made it even more logical to give Madison a go- hunger and desire rather than weariness. Maddison would've been keen to impress.

Southgate wasted a chance through his own prejudices.

It is sad to see, first Vardy now Madders.

The blokes clueless.

I just don't think Southgate can handle anyone with a bit of character about them.

I would say Grealish has an overload of character and Southgate tolerates that, don't forget he was a teammate of Gascoigne.

I think you’ve hit the nail mate. Southgate ‘tolerates’ Grealish.

I have this impression of Southgate that secretly he’d rather Grealish not be in the squad but knows the public clamour for him to play some part. I think Southgate likes calm, organised, regimented, disciplined… not ‘loose cannons’.

This is why Venables was such a good manager for England overall. He had a right job on his hands with that lary squad! Gazza, Sheringham et al and there was all the dentists chair stuff before Euro 96.

But Venables went with it, laffed it off and we put out possibly the most memorable England side in recent memory. Plenty of that squad said the loved playing for El Tel..

Southgate is very different.
I was listening to Didi Hamann earlier on TalkSport, who comes out with some sensible stuff. He said that the German squad at present is probably the worst for a long time. But he also said that himself and ‘The Germans’ are really surprised that Southgate plays defensively when we have such good attacking players in England at the moment.

I thought that was spot on
