Can't understand anyone wanting him to go anyway. I'd infinitely rather he have his mini pre-season and come back firing for us. **** Southgate and lets be honest he'd be picked because of pressure anyway and never get on the pitch.

Leicester, Boohoo, England. In that order.

Absolutely.

I think people are worried that not being picked is another tick in the box to start thinking about moving to a bigger club.

Definitely.

I think he'll get picked by Southgate rather like Vardy did due to media and supporter pressure. Then, like Vardy, Southgate will find any excuse not to actually play him unless he's losing and is absolutely forced to to save face.

Yes that could very well happen based on past history with this manager. He has his basic route 1 style of football and if that doesn’t work he doesn’t have the foggiest what to do. Often gets caught frozen like a deer in the headlights.

It’s tough we all want madders not just to go but to shine. Will southgate allow him to? We shall see how much he has changed in a few weeks time.

Yes. All this loyalty nonsense to certain players that have not let him down for example Sterling and Mount. Anyone would think England had actually won something. Southgate needs to think of something new. Good job Alf Ramsey was open to Geoff Hurst replacing Jimmy Greaves

If Southgate DOES do what we expect him to do and pick Jordan Henderson et al at the expense of Maddison, he needs shooting for the completely one-dimensional, staid character he is.

We could have half a shout of winning this World Cup if he’d just take the shackles off.

Unfortunately, until Southgate is thrown out, every player that ends up going will come home early anyway.

If Yes Man could field a team of 12 defenders, he would.

He isn't a winner, he doesn't take risks, he's tactically inept and, at the top level, he's a bottler.  His playing record will tell you all you need to know.

Bottler.

Every time a euros or world cup comes around we always have the same issues with players getting picked based on their friendships with the manager rather than on current form.

Maddison on current form should be starting for England. No way on earth we should be debating whether he gets a place in the squad!

He forgave Foden

Interesting that he forgave foden but not greenwood …… almost like it was known within the game that something was amiss there …..

he will be taking a huge risk not to pick madders but if someone like James says he will be fit for end November then you could see him giving madders squad spot to the Chelsea FB …….

Foden plays for Man City. He will still be in and around the squad to keep the sponsors and the dinosaurs at the FA happy.

Its why there is such a thing as big club bias, the sponsors want fans from the 'bigger' fan bases watching to maximise revenue.

Its partly why Southgate was allowed to get away with ignoring Grealish until he signed for Man City and why he's allowed to get away with ignoring Maddison now.

I hope England gently usher him out after this tournament. He has, on paper, done well but with the players at England's disposal his conservatism is a handbrake on true success. As you said, he is an unimaginitive, staid manager.

Southgate would rather pick Welbeck or Lingard ahead of Maddison. The ship has already sailed.

The casino incident has made up Gareths mind. He won’t ever change it.

Casino incident was less an issue, than Southgate missing that penalty.

Maddison was released,it was his own free time..

Southgate lost his chips while on fking duty..:jump:

Not sure it just that as he made his England debut after that.

The casino incident was October 2019, he made his debut in November 2019.

Yes we'll be losing and he'll throw him on in the 88th minute and expect him to change the game. Unless Foden and Mount get injured he won't play at all. And even then Southgate will have another 5 or 6 players he'd choose over Maddison.

Just cannot see him being picked despite the noise. Southgate's three year long dislike of him seems to be too much to overcome.

A massive shame for all, really.

You hope he goes.  Crux of it is, his overall standard the last 18 months has been v strong, in a poor team this season he has been above excellent.  Surprised to say he even looks like he's picked up a yard of gas, was at Goodison on Saturday and he was running away from players with the ball!!  He couldn't do that 2 years ago.

He works much harder, puts in a decent shift defensively, often putting a foot it, creativity and goal output are at a very very high level, great free kicks.  When you add that to the drop in form of the current incumbents e.g. Mount, Grealish and the increased squad size 26 vs 22. HE HAS TO GO, just as an impact sub.

Pick on form.  I know he is in the most competitive area of the squad but seeing the press and TV, his non selection will be the most contentious.  Sadly lack of caps may now be Southgate's excuse.

Take Barnes & Justin while your at it!!!:scarf:

I think the media pressure will be too much and he'll make the squad. But he won't feature much. Southgate did the same last year with TAA. He was playing well at the time, but Southgate preferred James, Walker and Trippier as the right back options. He ended up taking TAA along with the others. Then he got injured right before the tournament but it was pretty obvious there wasn't really a spot for him.

I want us all to be celebrating Southgate & his merry men..

I want the miserable & negative fans, to be grovelling & looking for redemption. And begging him to sign a 7 year extension...

Southgate has a hill top gathering with all those that opposed him...

And with the 5 loaves & 2 fish,he swats them all driving them off our fair Islands...:englandsmile4wf:

Then he thanks all loyal fans, with free new waistcoats & replicas of Harry Kane's nose & chin..

Must not have liked something he seen during that November break then.

Maybe Maddison wasn't repentant enough.
