Maddison

Recommended Posts

I was just looking at the numbers and range of options of what I think Southgate will do

Pickford

Pope

Ramsdale

Alexander-Arnold

Trippier

Walker

White

Stones

Maguire

Dier

Coady

Shaw

Rice

Bellingham

Phillips
Henderson

Mount

Ward-Prowse

Saka

Foden

Grealish

Sterling

Rashford

Kane

Abraham

So that is 25 names, and quite conservative including names like Phillips (who I reckon southgate will take even though he obviously shouldn't).

Only one true lb, but Trippier and Saka have both played there under him.

So that leaves 1 more place...I think it comes down to whether he feels he needs another striker or another midfielder? Is two main strikers enough? Does Rashford play through the middle? Does he take 10 defenders? surely not. So many options.

from: Guéhi, Tomori, Gallagher, Toney, Wilson, Sancho, Bowen, ... and Maddison.

I know who I'm taking.

I can see it being a straight shootout between Toney, Wilson or Maddison, and I'm afraid he'll take one of the strikers. I feel Rashford has done for Maddison because he can play up front, wide and is experienced)

Abraham should be dropped for Maddison he only plays one striker anyway

Abraham deserves a spot for his goals.

Is Walker fit enough to go? TAA/Trippier are enough there, and you have White there for the depth.

Do Henderson/Ward-Prowse deserve a place?

that's my point. Is 2+Rashford (or Sterling hovering around) enough over a tournament. Whoever it is I think he takes 3 main strikers + rashford and sterling. It's all about options.

For me Maddison should go ahead of Grealish, so we avoid that point. But that is never going to happen.

I also don't watch any serie a, but if Smalling is consistantly as good as he was against us for Roma, then I have absolutely no idea why he has not even been mentioned.

Jacqui Oatley reckons Southgate had a 'negative experience' with Maddison at under-21 level. This seems a bit odd given that Maddison didn't start playing for the under-21s until 2017, after Southgate had left to manage the senior team, but this is what's she's claiming...

Not to mention it was 5 years ago.

The whole thing is so odd. I don't really buy that he's overlooked because he plays for Leicester, as Southgate has called up a reasonable number of our players. The suggestion that they don't have the best relationship seems the most plausible to me, but considering how popular Madders seems to be across the football community, that also doesn't quite make sense either. But then you look back to the casino 'incident' and how Southgate had an opportunity to completely put that one to bed by saying that it was a non-story, but he didn't.

Anyhow, I just hope he really is on that plane.
