So - How many minutes is Gareth going to give him???

I hope I am wrong but I can’t see Maddison being hardly used at all. A couple of minutes here and there off the bench at the end of the games, when the game is done. Southgate stubbornly sticks to his favourites, and Maddison isn’t in his club. Such a tool.

Itll go the same way as Vardy, where he hadnt planned to use him, but took him to avoid a backlash. Maddison doesnt fit in to either of Southgates preferred 523 or 433 formations and shouldnt displace Saka or Foden in those wide areas.

The only way Maddison plays is if we go 4231 and he plays behind Kane and in front of Rice and Bellingham. That would be my favoured set up for the group stage but southgate will go 5 at the back to get us in a defensive groove for the knockouts.

Pope

Trippier White Stones Maguire Shaw

Bellingham Rice

Saka Kane Foden

He will then bring in Walker for White when fit and have Mount, Grealish, Rashford and Sterling ready if the wide guys arent firing.

If we beat Iran with 523 then its the worst thing for Maddisons tournament.

Southgate has a problem as his preferred 5 at the back formation and team selection did not work in the nations league and was disastrous. He will need to change something and there is no one that gives him that option better than Madders in the current squad. He is also boosted by the fact that we play our first game on Monday so players in form may be used initially rather than his preferred players. Then it's up to Madders to show him what he's got!!

Are you forgetting where Maddison now plays for Leicester?

'Ridiculous' - Leicester City star James Maddison finally addresses controversial casino visit
Latest Leicester City news as James Maddison talks about his controversial 2019 casino visit while he prepares for the World Cup with England in Qatar

Leicester City and England midfielder James Maddison has addressed the infamous casino incident that was seen to have dented his international hopes in October 2019.

Maddison was pictured in a Leicester city centre casino on the same night he was declared too unwell to play for England in a Euro 2020 qualifier against the Czech Republic. It was an incident that sparked plenty of conversation among supporters and pundits, but both Maddison and Southgate quickly put the incident to bed.

The City star was asked about that night in a pre-World Cup press conference on Wednesday afternoon, with a suggestion that it could have been a concern for his England future swiftly dismissed by the 25-year-old.

"I thought that might get brought up," Maddison said when asked about the casino incident, "and I'm actually glad you asked. People forget I was actually capped by Gareth Southgate and called up after the casino incident.

"It wasn't a big deal, at the time, for Gareth and it got blown out of proportion. Some of it was ridiculous (compared) to what actually happened.

"Ah, that's in the past. I don't want to go into the details because we know, in-house, what it was and it wasn't a big deal then. Like I said, I was actually capped after that incident so people who often say (things about it) I think are maybe just looking for excuses for me and why I wasn't in the squad."

When asked to confirm it wasn't a concern for him leading up to this winter, he said: "No. We'd already spoken about it and put it to bed. I was called up and capped after that, so that was never a concern. That was more outside noise from you lot, I think."

England boss Gareth Southgate recently described Maddison as misunderstood, something the midfielder doesn't see from his point of view. "Anyone who knows me, or anyone within football, knows the type of person I am. How I am as a person and as a player," he said.

"I always try and carry myself with respect and very professionally. If other people outside might not think that, maybe that's what he's talking about.

"I don't feel like I'm misunderstood. Listen, sitting here today, 25-year-old James Maddison who's a father, would probably say to 20-year-old James Maddison: 'hmm, probably not the best idea to do that, or to do that'.

"But that's all part of learning and all part of experience. That's probably why I'm thicker-skinned and more experienced to sit here and talk to you now, because of the little things that have happened in the past."

Iranian forwards have pace and good dribbling techniques. Playing with 3 CBs including Maguire it's going to be a disaster I'm afraid.

Please please please sign a new contract with us

Spending a month alongside players like Grealish isn’t going to help, he gets to see first hand how much better he is than him and his on £300k a week.

Depending on if JM is utilised for England, it’s probably a terrible time for the club to be in negotiations over a new deal in the coming weeks/months.

Exactly this , even got no chance when he sees what these lads are living like and getting paid . I also think he's destined for the top,  amd we aren't that. He's not winning much here , won't sign another deal

Operation Pope, Trippier and Wilson had commenced

Jeez. Why are so many concerned about Newcastle?

Everything you read and hear about Madders indiates he's not motivated by money. He wants to be a superstar. He's living a dream. Give him the choice this summer between, say, st James park or old Trafford (on half the money), he'll walk to Manchester barefoot.

Not only that, there's every chance Newcastle burned their bridges with the laughable, and unwelcome, summer bid. Rob Tanner more or less made clear the club took a very dim view

He likes the idea of being the star man in the team and the focal point of that specific  project.

The bids came in because they knew he would be jump at the move, if the clubs accepted. Newcastle will be back after the World Cup.
